It's gonna be a very big holiday season for GameStop, and they're starting to prep.
The mega video game retailer intends to hire around 17,000 people in the US to assist with the insanity of the upcoming few months, which includes the launch of two new consoles, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
They're looking for Game Advisors, consumer electronic technicians (in the company's refurbishment operation center in Texas) and warehouse personnel for their two distribution centers. Bear in mind that these will be seasonal positions, and successful candidates will work part-time shifts on weekdays, weeknights and weekends. And of course, one of the fringe benefits is a 15% employee discount. Here's a statement from the company:
"In the weeks leading up to the holidays, GameStop experiences a substantial peak in the number of customers it services online and within its retail stores. As a result, ensuring that there is an adequate number of talented Game Advisor staff to support this increase in store traffic is a priority in order to maintain the high quality of customer service shoppers expect from GameStop."
Unsurprisingly, the holiday season is by far the busiest time of the year for GameStop, as the period between October and December typically accounts for 40% of overall annual revenue. If you'd like to apply for an open position, visit the company's career website .
Ah yes, I remember working the holidays at Electronics Boutique. I also remember several system launches; they were the only reason working there was worth it. That's because you'd get commission on every warranty sold; 20%, to be exact. So, if you could convince the consumer to purchase a 2-year $50 warranty, that's $10 in your pocket. Do that maybe 40 or 50 times during launch day because everyone is there for the same reason, and your paycheck was way higher than it would be normally.
