That's a good day's work.
As reported by GamesIndustry.biz , Take-Two Interactive has revealed that Grand Theft Auto V is off to the fastest start in the franchise's storied history. It only took 24 hours for the game to generate over $800 million!
It's also a record for Take-Two, although the company didn't claim it as such. Last year, Activision said the $500 million Call of Duty: Black Ops II raked in was the biggest day one entertainment launch in the industry's history. Maybe Take-Two just didn't know. Well, anyway, here's what boss man Strauss Zelnick had to say:
"All of us at Take-Two are thrilled with the initial response to Grand Theft Auto V. Once again, the team at Rockstar Games have outdone themselves, setting the entertainment industry's new standard for creativity, innovation and excellence."
GTAV has also garnered plenty of critical acclaim already, netting 15 perfect scores and an average Metascore of 97. Obviously, there's all sorts of controversy surrounding the title but it wouldn't be GTA without that controversy. You can expect to see our review of the massively epic game very soon but in the meantime, did you expect it to hit so hard on launch day? Like, $800 million hard?

I did say it would 360 no scope CoD, and i doubt CoD Ghosts is going to pull off 800 million in the first day. Game is great. Buy it
COD needs to go away.
I love the part when Michael is just complaining about his son playing dumb*** shooters all days. OBVIOUS SHOT at COD. LET IT BURN. LONG LIVE GTA.
Went with the flow – sneaky buy on psn to hide my purchase from the wife. Took a long time to download. Looks pretty good and Ill get into it eventually, but after an hour I've gone back to BLOPS 2 deathmatch.
Wow that is so amazingly impressive I can hardly believe it. The movie industry is toast.
I hear there's a crazy Juggalo character in this game so maybe I'll hafta buy it afterall 🙂
Are you sure you don't want to wait for the game of the year edition? You might get ICP's chunky *sses thrown in as an added bonus.
shaggy or someone in shaggys face paint is clearly seen in the animation bumps while loading the install. after i looked it up people were saying there is a mission where they beat up juggalos. i was not happy to hear such a thing but i am not sure it if true.
That would be a bummer, be cool if you can paint up a clown in GTA Online though, I'd actually play.
Hello guys! 450 people attended my GameStop midnight launch. I was the very last person out and it was 1:40am.
Oh cool, you work at GameStop?
How many were actually in the store? The stores are small.
I don't get it. For it to hit record revenue, doesn't it also mean it has to break sales record? So did this game actually surpassed previous COD records for day one? If so, big props to them, and no offense to COD, but unlike them, this imo, is deserving.
Yeah that's what I'm confused about. And yes, this is success well deserved.
eh, not a bad days work.
so T2 spent 280M making this game, spending FIVE freaking years, and they have made EIGHT HUNDRED MILLION dollars off it in ONE day!
god dam, im in the wrong industry!
and this isent even the most preordered game of the year…….
Game of the generation? Quite a few reviewers hints at that.
Can't wait to get started on this baby.
But isn't that what you are doing? Waiting? *nudge nudge*
This game is all they are talking about on my local rock radio station this morning.
Man!!! I need to team up with Rockstar and get some of that change. But GTAV is definitely a work of art. If this is what GTA looks like now, the next Red Dead should look crazy on PS4.
well 800mil in a day is well like amazing aye i think it is a new industry record and well de throning COD and i'm happy that a more innovative game and taken well a stale game's place to put it bluntly.
happy gaming =)
