Watch Dogs Benefits From Releasing Two Months After GTAV

Release timing is so critical in this industry.

There's no doubt that Grand Theft Auto V and Watch Dogs are similar, in that both are basically open-world adventure games. There are stylistic and gameplay differences, of course, but both have similar structures and both require a certain amount of dedicated time.

Therefore, had both titles launched around the same time, that could've been bad for Ubisoft's new IP. After all, regardless of quality, GTA is a well-established franchise that is guaranteed of ridiculous sales. However, with a two month gap between GTAV and Watch Dogs , Ubisoft believes that's enough time for gamers to play, enjoy and finish GTAV…and then be all primed and ready to move on to Watch Dogs . Check out the pic posted up at the Ubisoft Nordic Facebook page . "Two months are enough to visit Los Santos…come to Chicago on November 21."

Well, that sounds reasonable. The only question is, what about the other open-world game that comes out a couple weeks before Watch Dogs ? Ubisoft, it's your very own Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

That'd be crazy if GTA and AC kept Watch Dogs from being a hit. They've been acting like it's already the greatest franchise ever conceived and will sell 10 million.

Watch Dogs benefits greatly from the attention of being a launch title on the next generation consoles. I'm pretty sure most everyone that gets a new console this holiday season will at some point also get Watch Dogs.

Wish Rockstar did the same… :/

Yeah I suppose it will, that's probably why they packed the schedule.

Today Ubisoft posted this on their FB page:

"Too busy to find an image to post, we're currently lost in Los Santos. Congrats Rockstar Games #GTAV.

We'll see you in Chicago in November."

(accompanied with just a white space as "picture")

I dig it when devs give creds and attention to competitors like this. Really dig it.

Definitely the artists in them. Alex Ward from Criterion Games also said something on twitter about being in Los Santos, when invited to an XBone demonstration that was to take place last (Tuesday) night.

Saw a game demo of this the other week, looks like Assassins creed but with hacking instead of eagle vision, climb a tower to sync and unlock an area, get close enough to hack a node to unlock an area!?….horses/cars….i think i'll stick with los santos and gotham city this autumn/winter.

Watch Dogs looks great but I am overwhelmed at the thought of another massive open world crime-y game in like 60 days. GTA is going to take WAY longer than that to fully explore, I think.

wonder if PS+ members in Europe will get this game for free in a year or so.

Now European members are getting Dragon's Dogma to already add to FC3 and AC3 Instant Game Collection lineup.

What we americans gonna get? …Star Trek The Video Game?

Sales won't suffer, but it's going to be compared to GTA V and it's going to fall well short. Should be a good game but it doesn't seem nearly as impressive as it did during the E3 2012 reveal.

Well, I never considered that, but it makes no difference to me personally.

I already have GTA V,(and I love it so far), and will be getting Watch Dogs and AC IV the same day as the PS4 launch day.
