Despite the well-documented woes of this game, Square Enix remains dedicated to the complicated project.
When Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn recently launched for the PS3 and PC, players immediately began complaining of various server issues. The developers responded by saying those servers were being severely taxed; hence, the reason for the problems.
Since that time, the MMO has been basically unplayable for many players, which has generated plenty of annoyance, as you might expect. However, Square Enix has announced that players who haven't yet redeemed their trial will be eligible for an extra 7 days of online fun. They just have to register before September 9. This is their way of saying "sorry." They will continue to increase the amount of log-ins available on each server, so things should be rosier moving forward.
Here's the statement:
"Because login and character creation restrictions have hindered our ability to provide quality service, all Final Fantasy 14 service accounts will receive an additional seven days of free play time.
Furthermore, users who have yet to enter their registration codes will receive an additional seven-day trial should they register before 11.59 pm (PDT) on September 9, 2013. Moving forward, we will continue monitoring the servers to ensure that quality service and support are provided in a timely manner."
Like I said, they seem determined to get this right. And that's a good thing, I believe. Annoying yes, but work is being done.

That's pretty nice of them to give something. I've read countless stories about people not being even able to log on to make a character. I myself never had such an issue and it only takes a few minutes to get on. I do however would recommend this game to people who do like mmo's. Problems aside it's been one of the best mmo's I've played in a long time.
I've had it twice where I got a little mad. Both were just due to an inability to actually get logged on. Most days, I got on in a few tries though. And once on, it works like a dream with no issues.
I want to play FF XIV so bad but I can't commit to a subscription based game with Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and GTA V releasing soon.
No worries, it will be around for a long time so jump in when you feel you have the time. You get a free month btw.
Same bebestorm, my plans are still set to get it on PS4, not PC hehe.
Wait for me in the FFXIV world limitedV
Oh yeah, LV, I think I already asked you before, but if not, what server you on?
I'm on Malboro. Got a few buddies on, too. They're evolving! I got them from CoD to TLOU…. to FFXIV. And they love it. woot!
It's amazing what the CoD crowd discovers when they dare to try something else.

that's impressive. good job UDog
I'm on Siren but I will gladly move to accommodate my lovers.
meh. games like this and Diablo and RTS just belong on PC where they're best.
I have to be honest, I currently own it for PC but I will be picking up a copy for PS4 when it's available. I love that I can use one account on both systems.
I have it for both PC and PS3. Both work great. Both can use keyboard/mouse or controller (or both). PS3 is graphically inferior to a PC that can play it on max settings. But PS4 won't have the same limitations.
I haven't played PS3 version since the fourth phase beta, though.
The only complaint about the game is the server issue. For an MMO this is extremely positive news.
You got into GW2 around the same time I did. Would you say this game is better than GW2 or equally as good only different?
I want to get this but I hate paying sub fees.
It's really different. I've been playing it on PS3 and it is LOADS of fun. Even through all this server stuff I have had 0 problem playing while the servers haven't been on maintenance. Dunno if it's easier to log on via ps3 or not, haha. But it feels way different, I like it far more than I liked GW2, not that GW2 is a bad game at all.
Of myself and my 4 buddies, Two of us play primarily on PC, and the other 3 play on PS3. We've had similar login issues. Can't tell there's been an advantage one way or the other really.
We voice chat through google hangouts.
I put over 400hrs into GW2 and I loved every minute of it. But it felt like after I put 100% map completion I was bored with the game. Everything in FF feels deeper and more refined than GW2. I loved GW2 but I see myself playing FFXIV a lot more. You get a month for free so try it out.
I haven't played for about a week but from what I played I enjoyed. I'm on the Faerie and Marlboro server if anyone is interested in partying up. Though my level is low being unable to play.
I'm an Faerie as well.
I really dig this game. I did all of the beta testing on the PS3 and was pretty surprised at how well it played with the controller.
This stuff doesn't help the image of any MMO in my mind.
I've seen too many people burn away their life on MMO's. I just can't be a part of that.
THough, I will say S-E's 3D modelers must've spent an MMO's time (likely a full week or two) modeling Lightning's hair. I found an object file of her the other day, like a legit one right from the game, and freaking crap her hair alone is nearly 5,000 polies.

PS store update is live!
DOA Core Fighters GET!
RE: Chronicles for 'free'?
Man alive, just a couple weeks ago Sony was boasting of their game collection in the 80's range on Metacritic and here they plop down a 70. All the while Europe gets AC3!
wow i just found out my head has 4 polys
This game has had so much bad luck, can't help but worry if SquareEnix continues to lose more money after Lightning Returns fails.

Not really. This sort of thing happens with most mmo's.
This is THE WORST MMO OPENING EVER. The worst bug now is from the PS3 system. ONce you get everything downloaded and have to make the account, it will not let you make the account with the beta characters. You are forced to make a NEW account, therefore making 2 accounts. Then your beta account runs out and you cant play those characters anymore, even though those said characters are suppose to move on to the real game itself.
Its just terrible. You cant even log on any more. I have not play this game in over a week now.
Thank God for Diablo 3. Having a damn blast with this game.

I know what you did with the beta character thing. You fricked up because you got all clicky-clicky. If you read what you were doing, you would have combined the two into one.
You can fix -YOUR- error by calling SE.

As someone who played the beta on the PS3, and is now playing live on the PS3, I can confirm that Underdog is correct. If you follow the instructions, then there is absolutely no problem transitioning from beta to release on the same account. As Underdog stated, I believe you can get your account situation fixed by contacting their support. But remember, it was not their fault.
P.S. That has nothing to do with the launch either. The launch went quite well for a MMO launch. The only problem was having too many people on the servers. Other than that, the game is amazing.
