Gee, for games that didn't hit internal sales expectations, these two great titles still did pretty darn well.

In a recent Gamasutra post , Square Enix head of product development Darrell Gallagher revealed some very positive numbers for both Sleeping Dogs and this year's extremely popular Tomb Raider reboot.

First, Lara's new adventure managed to sell over 4 million copies, and it was the fastest-selling installment in the history of the franchise. It also became the "most critically acclaimed title" ever created by developer Crystal Dynamics (we certainly liked it a lot ). We have also heard that a next-generation effort is on the way, and we can't wait to see where Lara goes next! Just give us the same sort of gameplay structure, a whole new story and environment, and we'll be happy. Uncharted with a bit of freedom!

Gallagher also revealed that the formerly named "True Crime: Hong Kong," Sleeping Dogs , has proven profitable for Square Enix. He says that over 500,000 people per month continue to enjoy the well-received 2012 title. Hitting profitability was a "critical milestone" for the title although he didn't give us a final sales total. Square Enix announced earlier this year that Sleeping Dogs had shipped over 1.5 million units.

Lastly, Gallagher regrets that his company "walked away too early from these games," as he believes players would've appreciated more content. That may be true, but I for one am fine if a game just ends. …that's kinda the way it always used to be, remember?

I really want another Sleeping Dog and this time more Emma Stone!!! Don't have to worry about Tomb Raider since that's already being worked on, can't wait to get it on my ps4.

Is this a must play? I never liked Tomb Raider but this one certainly looks interesting.

You should give it a try it's very different from previous games. Games I'm unsure about I watch a Walkthrough on youtube or rent it from Redbox.

If you enjoyed Uncharted you will enjoy Tomb Raider, it's like Uncharted but with survival stuff and skill building. I loved it to death.

It doesn't have the production values of an Uncharted, but World is right. It's super fun.

For the record, I never completed a Tomb Raider prior to the reboot. I played most all of them but I never cared enough to finish…I not only finished the reboot, I worked to get 100%. ūüôā

I'm really glad Tomb Raider was a success. I got Sleeping Dogs off PSPlus for free and only played it for a brief time, I knew it was something I would really enjoy but I've just been too busy to really sink my teeth in. Still, it's one of the benefits of PS Plus, something I wouldn't have bought but will thoroughly enjoy when I can.

I'm also cool with a game just ending when it ends, but maybe not supporting these games further will teach them to complain about sales right out of the gate. Just don't start to milk them like Final Fantasy.

It's Zelda's fault the "Where am I?" level in Uncharted 2 felt empty without being able to throw chickens and smash villager pots for rupees =p

These sales probably include all of those blowout sales I've seen for TR, both online and off. This isn't exactly 4 million games sold at full MSRP.
But anyway, good news.

Pisses me off, every single time I tell myself to wait to buy a game I get impatient by the time it reaches $40, then I get convinced it will be one of those games that just doesn't take a nosedive and pow as soon as I have it there's a blowout sale for $20.

I'd say if it's not a CoD or Elder Scrolls or a Nintendo game, you can bet on most games being $20 within a year's time.

but yah, I've been in that scenario before myself.

I've noticed Ni No Kuni is now like $30 everywhere.
Though, reality tells me I'll never exhaust the time to play it…..

Steam is excellent. Last week, $12 would've got the patient Sleeping Dogs with all the DLC. I nabbed the DLC, and do not regret getting SD earlier. This weekend: Witcher 1 & 2 Enhanced editions for like $7 total. Getting and playing through those before the next gen sequel.

As much as I loved the whimsy of Ni No Kuni and some of the throw-back to old schoolyness if you want a truly satisfying JRPG I'd say Tales of Xillia is the way to go.

Me too world. I've picked up several games only to see the price drop shortly after. I get in the same trouble with Nintendo hardware. I usually buy their stuff at launch only to see them release a Zelda themed 3DS and now a Wii U. Ugh! Lol

I know right? I'm so tempted to pick up that Wind Waker bundle that Nintendo won't confirm exists but is already being shown in promotional flyers. But I won't. Need to save for a PS4.

Always wanted to try Wind Waker cuz it's so different. I ran across some trivia yesterday that said this "Former Nintendo of America president Minoru Arakawa was hesitant about releasing The Legend of Zelda in the United States, as he wasn't sure Americans would have enough patience to understand the game."

Thank God he rethought it, some of us still have patience!

Whoa, I did not know that. I'm glad he changed his mind too. Zelda is my all time favorite franchise. And how could he assume we wouldn't have the patience? The first Zelda title on NES was my favorite game as a kid. I played the hell out of that game when I was only 5 or 6 years old. I have memories of sitting with my childhood friend playing that game for hours on end. Even at 6 we tried to master it. I still own my original gold NES cartridge. I played the original in full again not long ago in the Wii.

I wish PS people would give in more and give Nintendo hardware a chance. Their exclusives, especially Zelda truly are worth the investment. Wind Waker is probably the best Zelda right behind Skyward Sword in my opinion. And with the new features coming to the HD remake, it's going to be another great edition to the Wii U library. This title has held up so well over the last decade, with what Nintendo has done with it by simply adding better lighting, shaders among others, its looking better than many current gen games.

yah, I'm glad they took a chance with Zelda.

It's fun finding out these facts.

While skimming through some modeling stuff I found this interesting bit for Uncharted 2.

http://www.slideshare.net/naughty_dog/uncharted-2-character-pipeline

It's going to be too technical for most here but the funny thing is getting to slide 64. I don't know if someone slipped that in because Naughty Dog hated the idea of multiplayer in Uncharted or if it just meant a lot of extra work no one wanted to do.

I actually just finished Sleeping Dogs, was pretty awesome. Got the plat for it without too much difficulty and was surprised by how much I enjoyed the game.

Was like the best elements of yakuza and gta, only with better control in my opinion. Thought it was better balanced too. I thought I would like it, but it still managed to surprise me a bit.

Sleeping Dogs was sick. One of the best games of last year, IMO. It deserves a sequel.

Tomb Raider is on my wanted list.

My Tomb Raider / Lara Croft days are over. If someone were to buy it for me I would probably play it or if it was free on PS Plus. OTher than Nathan took the helm of that ship. Now I am waiting for who will take it over from Nathan.

Keep Playing!
