Infinite Burial At Sea DLC: Elizabeth Won’t Play Like Booker

We will be allowed to play as Elizabeth in the upcoming Burial at Sea DLC for Bioshock Infinite , and that has prompted a great many intrigued questions from the fans.

So, Irrational games has decided to answer those questions in a recent IGN interview with franchise creator Ken Levine and level designer Amanda Jeffrey. First and foremost, they want to make it plain that Elizabeth isn't just "Booker in a dress."

"That's always foremost in our mind, because Liz is such a different character to Booker, and if we were to just put Booker in a dress, then that would be the most awful betrayal of what we're doing for Liz, and players would just feel like it was a cheap way out, and that's not something that we want to do. So we don't have all of the answers yet for it, but we are very, very, very much aware of all of the dangers that we need to try and avoid."

There will even be some sequences where Elizabeth must avoid combat entirely. She may have to discover "a roundabout way of how to deal with her enemies," and that could mean sneaking past them. As for how the story switches to Elizabeth, this is triggered by a certain event, which, given the plot, ought to be…interesting. The fact that Burial at Sea takes place in Rapture, the setting of the first Bioshock , may be confusing, but Levine confirmed that Elizabeth will be fully aware of the events in Infinite :

"She is very much Elizabeth, but also has a character. She's affected. She's definitely changed by what she's done. I will say certainly you are picking up after the events of Infinite, and this is a person who has seen all the things you've seen in Infinite, and that’s had an effect on her."

You may also recall Elizabeth's unique Tear capability. Well, we'll have control over that, too, at least in some capacity. They're apparently still working on it, though, and Jeffrey says it could change "in the next few weeks." The bottom line is that there will be some things in her environment which she can change, but it won't be about "just pressing a button and winning." It'll be a little more complex than that…

Man, who isn't psyched for this DLC? Too bad we have to wait until next year; we want it right now, damnit.

It's gonna be like a mini sequel! I know I wanna play it neow. It's good to hear they are changing the gameplay for her character, those challenge rooms DLC is the true cheap way out, but I ain't mad because Burial will be worth the cost of it all.

So it's "Liz" now huh?

Hey Ben,

This is completely off-topic and the wrong place to put it, but I am in a rush to let you know about this before I head off to my second job.

Why does my Norton Internet Security program try to block my access to this site?

It said something like: "psxextreme.com is a known malicious website that is reported to house phishing and spam scams", or something to that effect.

You might need to take a little look-see to see if someone dropped something actually malicious into the site through a back door, or get in touch with Symantec to straighten things out so that people aren't scared away from visiting the site.

A DLC for next year? Isn't this a pretext to kept us from selling the main game so they can make more revenue from new copies of the game? I'm wondering because such a good hit (the main game) should have been capitalized with a DLC just a couple of months after. I also don't want to keep my hopes high since I already was left waiting for DLCs like the ones Heavy Rain was supposed to have (non related developer).
