If you've completed Naughty Dog's masterful The Last Of Us , you know how it ended. But as is often the case when conceiving of and writing a story, things change over time.

The developer has released an image of an alternate ending for the game; creative director Neil Druckmann Tweeted : "See how it originally ended." It seems to be a picture of Joel tied to a chair, and a woman is threatening him with a knife. That woman looks a little like Tess, doesn't it…?

We'll learn more about the other endings the team considered during a PAX Prime panel next month. Druckmann has said they thought about "three or four ideas" for the game's climax before they settled on the best possible option. Here's a line from the panel's description, which should intrigue you:

"But really, Neil and Bruce will pull back the curtain to show you their original pitch for The Last of Us… and giving everyone at this panel a look at how close or far the final game ended up from the original pitch."

The Last Of Us tells a great story. I thought the ending was fantastic. But what else might they have done…?

Such an awesome game and story. It really touched me emotionally. The ending was perfect and I am hoping for a sequel because I really want more of TLOU universe and characters.

I am still thinking about it to this day. TLOU has actually stopped me from playing ACIII for now. Thankfully I was able to play Persona 3 Portable with out issues. I am at the end finally with over 90 hours into it. Talk about getting my monies worth! And gamers say P4G is better!! (Mind Explodes!) Great to know I have even a better experience waiting for me. It's only $19.99 on PSN too!! Decisions!

Ugh, I got bored as hell with ACIII about 60% through. I intend on finishing it at some point. Perhaps after Pikmin 3.

Yeah, I have heard mixed things but I have to finish it. I have enjoyed it so far. ACIV is a must buy for me as I am a pirate fiend! Cannot wait for ACIV. I will get back into it. I just have to polish off the fantastic P3P!

There are spawning enemies? I never encountered that.

wait for the badguys to break up into a searching pattern, then use a brick or bottle to lure one in to a corner, sneak up n choke em out, hide untill his buddies come looking….rinse & repeat.
i usually just brawl with the runners & stalkers but stealth kill clickers or leave em alone!

if ya stealth kill every hunter in an area sometimes more jump down,
(SPOILER ALERT)
The part where ellie covers joel with the rifle for the 1st time,i stealthily took all the hunters down and then a dude just grappled me from behind & out of no where even though i had my back to a wall, anyway about 5 more dudes came out. They probably come anyway but it scared the poo outa me,& i was thinking i was all ninja taken them out all silent like.
END SPOILER!!

yeah I never mess with clickers unless I absolutely have to, creepy bastards. I'll try your corner trick, it's hard to get them to pay any attention to the stuff I toss.

Sayword: If you get spotted enemies just explode out of nowhere, so like if you make it by 3 guys with stealth and you're good that's all there was is 3 but if you get seen then all of the sudden there's 10 so I call that spawning.

The spawning isn't that bad. Call of Duty is the worst offender of all when it comes to massive spawning.

What spawning? I don't remember anything like that in the campaign…

I dont remember any random spawning in the 22 hours I played the game. If you sneak around and use the focus hearing, you can count the enemies, and if you alarm them that many enemies will show up. Im very confident in that. The only time thats even remotely different is in areas for instance when the drama picks up. But its completely situational.

There are areas that are large and enemies can be alerted to other locations and when and if you make it past them there will be none in their original location. That happens a lot and thats a nod to the incredible ai. So im sorry I cant agree with you on the spawning deal.

Some times if you alert the infected in like a building or so, most of the ones on that floor will come running.

Always stay alert. 😀

Didn't encounter many many spawning in my play through. Usually there are 2nd batch of enemies and they will come at certain point like a door or hallway. And sometimes they're in a cluster talking to each other and then spreads out. And then there's the part when you start the generator suddenly clickers appears from everywhere even though I search the area before and found nothing. But that's understandably scripted.

I thought the ending was oerfect for the story. It showed true human emotion annd thats why the whole game was so damn good. This game is as good as it gets in story telling.

I agree. The game ended perfectly as it is. I'm glad that Naughty Dog settled with that version. With that said, it would still be interesting to learn about the original pitch.

Yeah me too. At first I was kind of speechless, like really thats it? But now it totally fits the story, all things considered. And they explored the curiosity of human nature brilliantly.

The game is awesome. It's an epic experience. I mean I have prepared my body and soul coming close to the end and then the time comes and boom! and then again boom! and finally again boom!. Those emotional unexpected things in the end is so awesome. It's a brutal, beautiful and perfectly done ending.

Wonderful game
the end of the pittsburg act made me almost cry
'This is all your fault….'
'This is no ones fault, just gimme the gun man'….

I felt that scene could have been done a little better. It felt rushed and not very organic to me. I enjoyed the argument Joel has with Ellie at the ranch house after she runs off alone.

Rushed kinda fits the circumstance, one second their having breakfast, the next….
I thought the actor who played henry did a great job capturing the look of someone going temporarily mad.

****POTENTIAL SPOILERS****

I kind of agree but if you look at the situation, it probably felt rushed because we didnt see the time between the point when Ellie is trying to make him feel better (which was a long cut scene) and the point where the scene happens. It ended abruptly but realistically it would. They captured the essence of the scene. It was over when it happened, and that was that. I did appreciate how they kept it in Ellies mind and she brought it up when the Fall hit.

great game, great story, wondefull ending!

ND did a excellent job with Ellie & Joel and how
they drew closer to each other over time.

it was'nt like they didn't really like each other
one minute and the next minute, they were best freinds.

maby i'm wrong, i got a feeling later in the game that Joel started thinking of Ellie as his daughter.

<< POTENTIAL SPOILER >>
LoU was a good game with its flaws. 10 for experience and an 8.5 for over all game. Highly recommend it if the genre interests one.

Well, the ending was a bit predictable in the last part once everything came together although I guessed it earlier on, but with circumstantial evidence.

Towards the end the game sorta did cry for multiple choice endings.. possibly just one.

I think one ending that came to mind, not giving too much away to the existing ending would be for Joel to make the opposite choice… and then kill himself because he could not live with it, based on his feelings on the loss of his daughter 20 years earlier and his feelings for Ellie. 🙂

More dramatic I think… and would have left most gamers in silence for about 5 to 10 seconds asking themselve what just happened. Similar to some reactions by a many based on the original ending. What one might refer to as the "WTF" condition. 🙂

Keep Playing!

I thought the ending was OK, but I was let down too. I mean it felt unfinished. If their not planing a squeal why did they leave it hanging? The original ending would of worked better if they weren't going to make another game so I'm hopping they will make part 2 🙂
