You know, now that we can pre-order the PlayStation 4, many are seriously considering ditching their PS3s.

Personally, I wouldn't dream of doing that just yet, not with Beyond: Two Souls and Grand Theft Auto V on the horizon (and you'll want to keep it for The Last Of Us , too). But as the year progresses and the holidays loom large, GameStop always starts with the trade-in deals. With new hardware, it's traditionally expected that the retailer will offer some sort of bonus when trading in old hardware for a new replacement.

Remember when the new PS3 Slims came out and GameStop was offering $150 in trade for the old fatties? That was a huge deal, especially because it translated to a 50% discount on the new console that was priced at $300. And with two new systems coming out at the end of this year, you should anticipate seeing some pretty nifty trade-in deals. In fact, those deals might start popping up sooner than you think, so don't drop all your cash just yet. When the time comes, you might be able to get a nice big chunk for your old system. It'd be nice to get $150 again, wouldn't it?

The good news is that I have extreme difficulty thinking of any PS3 or 360 games set for 2014 that I want, and won't be able to play on the new consoles. Are there any? That's just more incentive to trade in the PS3 or 360 towards the fancy new systems. Then again, if you're a true collector, you'd never dream of doing any such thing, now would you? ūüėČ

Why would anyone trade in a perfectly good PS3 short of a tight budget and a powerful desire to get the PS4? Even with a strong launch lineup, it's still going to take time to build up a good sized library of PS4 titles and without backward compatability, there's no way to play your PS3 games.

Personally I have to say I am just to tired of the current generation. Dead tired. As far as I am concerned it lasted at least one year too long.

The last game I played on the PS3 were Dishonoured, and while playing I felt like I had played against this AI a thousand times before, had to cope with the visual and mechanical limitations an equal amount of times. I'm so tired of these limitations now.

So I've lost all interest in playing more games on this machine. I'll not even get me GTA5 this autumn because of this – and in my case that says a *lot*.

I've transported all my ps3 games over to the cabin along with my slim, where they shall rest a vacational life while my fatty will be traded in. Can't wait for that to happen.

I don't plan on selling my system, but more then likly sell some of these games. AND as much as id love to keep my system my nephews got my old fattie PS3 and that doesn't read disks anymore. Apparently they tried to get it fixed and they have had no success. So if I cant get it fixed somewhere then ill end up giving away my slim = not that I want to but im a good uncle. Just what i would have wanted if that happen to me as a kid (and we had all thees crazy awesome systems out)
Not to say N64, Super Nintendo, PS1, PS2 or Saga were bad by any means, just kids today are soo spoiled with this great tech.

Its good for those who own more than one PS3. I personally own 4, not by design, just accumulated over the past 7 years from getting the new slim to picking o E up for 40 bucks because someone wanted to get rid of it. They are all in use in the kids rooms, family room, and my den. I can see trading one in for a PS4 for the kids, since I don't see me sharing the one I already Preordered.

I have a huge library of PS3 games so I won't be trading my PS3 in for the new system. What would I use to play my huge library?

I have 2 PS3s so I'd consider it except I do like to have a backup of older systems. I've got 2 Dreamcasts just in case. Then again it's Gamestop so I'd probably end up with a PS4 that had been kicked around the warehouse.

I'm buying everything through GameStop so I can make 50,000 points and translate that to $50 for PS+. That's the plan. I believe I have over 30,000 points.

I'm keeping my PS3, I'm patient so I'll get my PS4 next year. I got too many games I haven't beaten yet. Plus looking at the PS2, PS3 and PS4 sitting around each other will be cool.

Although I am not one to let any of my consoles go I do know someone who never holds on to them.

Every new console since the PSOne they have traded the console AND all their games to go towards the new console and launch game. I can only guess without asking them they will take their PS3 and all their PS3 games in to trade towards the new PS4.

What they have told me in the past does make a little sense. Why would you want an old gen game when you can play a new better one. I see their point BUT graphics are an influence but the gameplay and immersion of a good game overshadows the graphics component. I even play the original Spyro on the PS3. Its fun and a bit of nostalgia. Mind you if can write it off your taxes and say its research for game development… even better. ūüôā

Mind you I am at a point to just give up the lot and just focus on the now and forget about old PS3 games or even the PS2 or PSone games. I think someday possibly Sony will stream them in the cloud or whatever service they successfully put in place, if possible. That said there just may be a time that certain old games, whether nostalgic or not or whether its for "game mechanics research", might be time to just say forget it and hold on to good memories.

Keep Playing!

Im keeping my ps3 for life!, If i wasnt saving up my money for the PS4, id either be upgrading my PS3's HDD or getting a 2nd PS3. I still have my PS1 and PS2, both originals and in excellant condition. I love the Sony Playstations, and Sony itself, my stereo (except speakers) are all Sony, my TV is a Sony, and Sony Headphones as well.

Sorry to be off topic but I just want to say that I basically have no emotions for the characters ever for any game. I just want to say that thanks to ND's latest game, I just barely got to feel for characters in a game. The story and the characters are so well thought out and well executed that you can't do anything but feel the emotions of what they're feeling. It's such a great game and anyone who hasn't picked it up yet, I highly recommend it. The great graphics, the voice acting, the animation, the mind fu**, all come together as one to create such a beauty.

That being said, there is no way I'm ever trading in my Ps3, ever. PS3 is home to TLOU. I'm not done with it yet, as I have limited time because of work. If it wasn't for work, I'd finish it in one sitting. That being said, I feel something is coming at the end. Something that will male me shed some manly tears. I can feel it, Ben, I think you know this. Good news is that the end of my schedule is tomorow(Monday) and I don't work till Friday. That's basically means TLOU.

trading in a PS3 for a PS4 is like trading an old friend for a new one.

Question: Will someone with an Xbox One be able to sell it to another person? If it is tied to a specific end user, what are the consequences. I haven't heard that question raised yet.

I'm going to be holding out on buying anymore upcoming PS3 games since there's that potential of it being streamable on the PS4 with that Gaikai service they're working on.

I'm not selling my PS3, though. It will be moving into the guest room and the PS4 will be taking it's place in the bedroom next to my PS2 and Gamecube.

If it's anything like current retail vs download then I'd expect them to be much more expensive as streamable on the PS4.

theres still heaps games which wont be on next gen consoles releasing next year.
last time i checked DS2 is not out till march next year and only on current systems.
isent CLOS2 set for ps3 and 360 next year as well?
as for when will see trade in offers, well once the release dates are announced.
not really worth it though, i remember wanting to trade my ps2 in to help with the 1000 dollar sting the ps3 was giving me, but ended up selling it on ebay for twice what EB was going to give me!
one thing i HATE about EB, there trade in values are a f*cking rip off!
so many times ive gone to trade in a new release like 10 or so days after release to find they will only offer me like 30 bucks, when i spent 70 more than that only 10 days ago!
games depreciate 70 dollars in 10 days do they?
then you find the same game on store shelves as a preowned title going for 80!
f*cking greedy bastards!!!!!!!!!
exactly why i make sure i take every game back within a week, otherwise you get ripped through the a$$ for it!

I'll be playing GT6 for at least a year lol. There's no way I'm trading in mine for the PS4. Plus, I still got to play Ni No Kuni and Last of Us. I was looking forward to Metal Gear Solid 5, but knowing that there will be a next gen version, I'll be playing that on the PS4. Bottom line, GT6 is a huge reason enough, and there are still several titles I want to play other than the above mentioned.

As of today, Gamestop has
New Model PS3 System Hardware $169.00 $169.00 â€
as far as trade in store credit. Could be double that and I'd still keep my PS3 though.

I bet Infinity Ward wishes they could take their Titanfall MS contract and trade it in for a Sony one right about now =p

Oh I guarantee it, right now they are looking at a small fraction of the sales they could have gotten. The Xone will go to casuals and then from those casuals only the FPS casuals who play more than CoD will get Titanfall. As weird as it sounds to you and me I bet some FPS casuals would think that keeping track of a Mech and two sets of controls is a pain. One of my friends is like this, he only wants one very simple set of controls that never changes.

I would add too that the head of Respawn told the press last week (Polygon, I think) that there's a very good chance the game will come to PS4 eventually, anyway. Considering also that the game will arrive on 360 and PC as well, I don't think many of us will have to work too hard to give it a try if it's half as a good as they say it is.

I learned my lesson when I was a kid and traded in my Genesis and entire library of Genesis games to get some store credit for a couple of new Saturn titles. I miss that thing dearly. Never trading in a console again, unless I bought one I actively disliked.

I might add also that I for one am very much looking forward to stockpiling many PS Plus games on my PS3, as well. As the generation comes to a close, I suspect we're going to get a nice lineup of games given away as part of the subscription. Will be a nice chance to catch up on some of the games we missed. In point, I just downloaded XCom and Dues Ex last weekend. Can't wait to take 'em for a spin!
