Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection A Must For The Hardcore

Last week, it seemed as if Hideo Kojima had hinted at a new Metal Gear Solid collection .

The information was backed up by a recent listing by the Korean Game Ratings board for something called the "Legacy Collection." Well, now it's official- Konami has confirmed Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection , which is coming exclusively to the PlayStation 3 in June. They haven't yet provided a price.

As expected, this compilation will help celebrate the iconic franchise's 25th anniversary, and it will include Metal Gear Solid , Metal Gear Solid 2: HD Edition , Metal Gear Solid 3: HD Edition , Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD Edition , Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions , and Metal Gear Solid 4: Trophy Edition . This robust collection will even include the original MSX versions of the first two games in the series, which the hardcore fans should definitely appreciate. Lastly, this bundle will also boast two Ashley Wood digital graphic novels.

This sounds like quite the package. Wonder how much it'll cost…?

For me it needs an updated MGS: Twin Snakes and official Solid Snake eye patch to be 'ultimate.'

oh, and 6 Snake statues =p

Consider me happy. I will greatly pay you Kojima, even though you put a knife through my back.

No Portable Ops? 🙁

The exact same question I had when I was looking at the poster of the Legacy Collection and the description of it.

I really always wonder why Portable Ops is never really mentioned at all when Metal Gear is talked about.

It's always: MGS, Sons of Liberty, Snake Eater, Guns of the Patriots, and Peace Walker. I get that the game's director was not Kojima…nor the writer…nor the designer – but ummm…for those that have played the game…wouldn't you consider it a DAMN FINE ADDITION to the MGS series? It seriously is one of the most memorable experiences for me…and I love the game's concept of recruiting soldiers and all. The controls were certainly a pain however…- but other than that…the story…it was just great!

But that always makes me wonder…is the story of Portable Ops…considered to be a part of the Metal Gear Solid universe…or is it something like Metal Gear AC!D?

As a Metal Gear fan…I really would like to know. I guess if Portable Ops' story wasn't included…the whole series would make a bit more sense…though I still find it cool that Big Boss and Roy Campbell were friends at a time.

Kinda need PO, PO+, and both AC!D games. Throw in both MG Saga DVDs and then it would be the ultimate edition. Still gettin it :p

Definitely want this. However…..

The PS4 is right around the corner…..

Make a ps4 version and then you can take my wallet, all of it.

No Twin Snakes or Portable Ops…For a legacy collection you think it would have included all of them 🙁
Guess il have to play Twin Snakes with on my pc with an emulator

While that is a great collection for those who do not have all the MGS games, I'm afraid I'm going to pass, simply because I have all those games already.

The only thing that would have made me buy it was if they had an HD MGS Twin Snakes update for the PS3 version. I'm glad my Wii plays Gamecube games, that's for sure!

Shame 360 gamers miss out on an awesome collection. But then again, they're too busy playing COD and Halo 4 to care, and I doubt MGS4 would've been included anyway since the 360 can't run it.

1 disc? I guess I don't have mgs1, but I just got the HD collection last year. Not sure who this is for,the HD collection, 4 and the digital 1 should be around 40 bucks these days so…

This is for someone like me who is a collector. I hopefully will have the money for it and will never even open it, since like others I already have the games.

I have beaten MGS4 a couple of times, but as I got into gaming later than most in my life I missed out on all the others, this is what I've been waiting for.

Portable Ops was an awesome Metal Gear who had awful control , if they fixed that it would be better than Peacewalker, sucks that they didn't include it.

I have the MGS3: Subsistence that came with the MSX games of MG1 and 2, never started playing it yet, I think I should since probably not going to be remastered in better graphics and controls.

What's MSX?

MGS3: Subsistence is awesome.
It is the best Metal Gear game in the series
the bonus disc w/ additional cutscenes is worth it by itself.

MSX was the name of a standardized home computer architecture, first announced by Microsoft in June 16, 1983. The hardware I believe was for playing retro style games back then. Look it up for more info.

Yes, MGS3: Subsistence is my favorite in the series also. The boss fight with The End was definately my favorite of all time.

I don't understand this. Everyone had access to all of them anyway, apart fro MGS1's VR Missions. You can get MGS1 on disc/download, MGS2,MGS3 & PW via the perfect HD collection and MGS4 is on general release. Having bought the HD collection special edition last year and having all of the above, I see no reason to purchase this. It'll probably be cheaper to get the HD Collection and MGS4 pre-owned and get MGS1 off the store.

The only thing that I don't already have from this collection is VR Missions. Not only that, but I already have two copies of MGS2 and MGS3. Overall, I think I'd rather keep what I have, and get the original VR Missions someday. That, to me, would be worth more as a collectible anyway.

i hope they update the controls though on mgs, mgs2, and mgs3, and maybe give the same pov in mgs and mgs2 that you do in the other mgs titles… i prefer the third person view over the birds eye view…
