Ninja Theory Teases New Project

Heavenly Sword 2 ! Okay, probably not. We're well past that possibility by now, I suppose, which is sad.

But anyway, the team that also brought you the well-received Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and DmC: Devil May Cry is apparently working on a new project, and they'll be ready to give us a peek some time soon.

This is evident from Ninja Theory's recent Twitter page update, which promotes a guessing game:

"Looking forward to showing you something new from us soon…"

So what do you think it might be? A brand new IP? Or has another Japanese company tapped them to help reboot an ailing franchise? Oh, I know, Final Fantasy ! Yes, it makes perfect sense; Lightning Returns is already bordering on action, so why not just go all the way and turn it into an action/adventure series, which is of course what all Western gamers want because they all hate traditional RPGs…? Plus, it's Ninja Theory's bread-and-butter so it should turn out well. …okay, sorry for the overly bitter rant.

'sigh'

Seriously, though, any ideas?

Well DmC was very impressive but I know it didn't sell for crap so it's hard to say but whatever it is it will have my support. NT tries so hard they deserve a big hit. I'll bet their deal with Capcom got them paid well despite the poor sales so maybe they can try another new IP, or hey it would be cool if EA contracted them for more Inferno.

Agreed. They take a lot of undeserved shit for a variety of reasons, but as far as I can tell, they've never put out a bad game. If any dev deserves to have their efforts rewarded, it's them.

I don't think it's the games people are mad about, I think it's their attitude and they way they respond to people personally.

People took their idea that Heavenly Sword was a flop purely from 'terrible sales' and people taking the whole wig scene in DmC the wrong way. And I'm not sure but I think there were interviews that irked people as well, like how when they first showed Dante he looked just like one of the dudes from Ninja Theory. I don't know. I think people just have it out for them at this point regardless of what they make.

The wig thing was especially funny if you stuck around to the end of the game.

Dmitrie-

For me personally, their games are nothing to complain about. The games are good. My problem is their busniess decisions and their expectations in people. They seem to have an elitest attitude, expect the world and when they dont get it put blame on consumers.

@bigrailer – fair enough, I guess. Stuff like that doesn't really bother me. As long as they keep putting at quality titles, they can say whatever they please.

So dmiitrie, extreme I know, but if they said "Everyone who doesn't buy our game are assholes." would be fine if the game was one of the 'best' games ever made?

Attitude and the way you put yourself out to the public is a pretty large part of a company.

For me, sure, I'd still get it. I don't need my game makers to be super nice people; I need them to make good games.

To use an example from another medium: by all accounts, Billy Corgan is an arrogant, self-righteous prick. Just a giant asshole. But the Smashing Pumpkins made some very excellent music in the mid to late 90s despite that and are, personally, still one of my favorite bands.

I feel like they're looking ahead at the new generation, but I wonder if they have the funds. That could restrict them to one more current gen game.

With their last 2 games kinda bombed in sales, I'm surprised they're not having any financial problems.

A fresh new IP would be nice.

More than likely a New IP. I wouldn't mind a Heavenly Sword 2 either. Not only was it a good game, it has so much story potential. I hope Sony does push that patent to bring trophies for older games. Id like a Heavenly Platinum!

"Ninja Theory teases new project"

*E32013 stage, Capcom representative walks on* "Hey, remember a little series called "Onimusha"? Well, we have a surprise for you."

Ninja Theory representative walks on stage: "Well, we thought Onimusha was a little too Japanese and not cool for modern age so…"

I'd die laughing if that was the case.

You're too cruel Rock 🙂
Onimucha is one of my all time favorite series, and I hope it never comes to harm at the hands of a western dev or some crazy Japanese dev trying to cater to westerners…

hope its a new enslaved game, one of the best games of this gen!
had such a brilliant story, brilliant character development, characters you actually give a sh*t about, a really good clever thought provoking ending, really fun gameplay, what more could you want!?

The only game I enjoyed from Ninja Theory was Heavenly Sword. I used to be a huge fan of the Devil May Cry games but the newest one ruined it for me.

They pretty much create new IPs or games every time. Haven't really done or settled on a sequel because I doubt they have the funds to really flesh it out. I agree and appreciate all their games, while they aren't AAA quality, they're still fun and enjoyable to play.

Enslaved had an interesting and different take on post-apocalyptic, everyone wants Heavenly Sword 2 and personally, I don't see what's wrong with new DmC-Capcom didn't have the original team from DMC4 to make it anyway.

I like NT but I hope it isn't Onimusha. I've been praying for Capcom to re-visit and update that franchise. Their cinematics were top-notch and so amazing ever since Onimusha 2, I'm talking best ever.
