Ground Zeroes Is A Prologue To MGSV: The Phantom Pain

'sigh' Now we're all confused.

When Hideo Kojima officially announced Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain yesterday, it was assumed and widely reported that this was the combination of Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain , which had previously been teased.

But now, a Konami representative has informed Siliconera that in fact, MGSV and Ground Zeroes are two separate games:

"Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain are two separate games. Ground Zeroes will actually be a prologue to The Phantom Pain, and that's all we can share at this time."

We know The Phantom Pain is coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at an unspecified time, but we have no idea where Ground Zeroes is headed. If it's a prequel, will it be on the same platforms? And if so, how much before The Phantom Pain will it release? Konami said they couldn't talk about whether or not the two games will be bundled together.

Well, this adds another dimension to things, doesn't it?

Oh boy. All I have to say is if Ground Zeroes is a prequel it better release first.

I think it would be cool if they released Zeroes on PS3 and 360 and then Phantom Pain straddled generations into PS4 and 720. That would spur some console sales for those wanting the upgraded version of the follow up. It would also be wise to keep the releases within 6-8 months of each other so there's a cliffhanger that must be dealt with and not a lengthy waiting time for the next entry. Pack a 1-2 punch.

huh? My copy of Infinite is resting comfortably on my PS3 (with the alternate art turned outward), waiting for me to be free to play it. It beckons…

Doesn't the trailer indicate that both will be for current gen? I mean I don't see how it can say PS3/X360 on the end of the trailer, but its meaning only to Ground Zeroes…?

What I said is that it would cool if its on both current and next gen, which would be possible even if the only logos shown so far are PS3/360.

I could have sworn that… wait… what?

I thought that GZ and TPP were the same game. Especially since TPP used footage from GZ.

Two games being developed at the same time seems like a nightmare from a development standpoint.

To me it would seem like GZ would be the tanker chapter to TPP's Big Shell Incident ala MGS2.

I guess not. Is that translation right?

Fission Mailed?

What is going on here????

I just know that Snake's brother's uncle is Big bosses's fathers cousin's son. I'll prove it….you just wait.

I am still in shock over the whole Hayter thing.

trust me Hayter is in the game…they're just playing you just like Hideo did with the whole "PHANTOM PAIN" trailer thing and coming up with some random studio known as moby dick studio and all.

And sure Hayter may not be BIG BOSS…but who's to say he's not Solid Snake?

To me it just makes more sense if Ground Zeroes really was a prologue in the sense that the tanker mission and the virtuous mission were prologues to mgs 3 and mgs 2 respectively.

I mean wasn't Kojima saying this just yesterday and all?

If they really are two separate games – I'm not going to complain though. HOWEVER…I will say that it sounds tough to market two games at the same time. I mean…I'm pretty sure more people are going to pay a lot more attention to MGSV as its titled MGSV while Ground Zeroes sounds like some sort of spin-off.

If the games were bundled together – the above statement doesn't matter anymore.

isent confusion a rule of entry to MGS?
one thing ill always hate about the series.
it assumes you have played every single second of the series 100000 times before!
that, and the extremely convoluted over dramatic cut scenes……
reminds me allot of family guy actually, especially the episode where peter traps a frog in the box and pokes holes into its back so it can breath.
of course its dead, so they spend the next 10 minutes with him fumbling with it trying to throw it out the window.

If Ground Zeroes is released as DLC, I will not be impressed. It essentially is the prologue for the game like the Tanker in 'MGS2' and the Virtuous Mission in 'MGS3'. So to not have that included in MGS5 will be an absolute con. I love Metal Gear and I know DLC is the norm nowadays but I still feel if your buying a game without content which you have to pay for separately you are being ripped off. If they included a 'Metal Gear Online 3' with MGS5 – all is forgiven…

As for MGS5 on the PS4, I doubt it, the trailer clearly stated PS3 & 360. I hope it doesn't as I do not want to fork out for a PS4 at release…

I'm not too sure about this. I'm going to wait for more concrete information. Kojima said that both games together make Metal Gear Solid V. Then the Konami rep says they're separate. Yet then a Kojima rep said they were one. I think this is a case where the right hand isn't talking to the left.

From Kojima's twitter:

""Ground Zeroes" is a prologue of "MGSV". 9 years after that event will be "The Phantom Pain". MGSV is contructed w/prologue and main game "TPP". The game play demo I presented today is the opening of "TPP" which is tutorial that starts from crawling"
