I know this isn't PlayStation-related but we often cover general gaming news, especially when it involves iconic names and landmark titles.
If you check NHL.com , you will find a piece detailing the legendary status of NHL '94 and celebrating the game's 20th anniversary. Yep, 20 years.
For those of you who don't know, NHL '94 was the first installment in the series to include real team names, logos and rosters. It was also one of the most popular games of its day, as it managed to ensnare even non-hockey followers (such as myself) in a way nobody had seen since Blades of Steel on the NES. The article also cites former Chicago Blackhawks star Jeremy Roenick, who was a beast on the ice. He says that people will still come up to him and mention the '94 hockey game.
I have this game for the SNES and I still play it from time to time. I really do. It's just one of those old games that never seems to get old, and is always fun. I always play as the Boston Bruins because I find I can really dominate with them; I think my best score ever was 17-0 and that's pretty good considering there were only 5-minute periods and the seconds weren't really seconds. Remember that? They were like half-seconds.
Anyway, I just thought some people would want a trip down good ol' memory lane. I know I did. 🙂
Never played it. The sports related games I liked are as follows: Tecmo Super Bowl, NBA Jam, …that is all.
Awesome! This is one of my all time favorite sports games. Fuuuuuuuuun!!!
Love the maiden cover! Bring your daughter to the slaughter… Ah, the memories… Saw them live 20 years ago. Epic!
To this day I still believe Blades of Steel on the NES is the all time best sports game. NHL 94 is up there, but nothing in my opinion beats Blades of Steel.

The good old days when EA wasn't the root of all evil. Played the hell out of NHL '94. Tecmo Super Bowl and Blades of Steel too.
I never had NHL 94 and I don't know why. I was a huge hockey fan at the timeand played the hell out of Blades of Steel and NHL 96.
I also forgot that Roenick played for the Blackhawks. I only seem to remember his later years in Phoenix.
Haha oh my days, I even played this sports game! It was on the Sega Megadrive/Genesis too right?
Had an ice hockey game on my N64 back in the day. Was it Wayne Gretsky?
Loved it!!!
Bring out an NHL for the Vita and I'm there. The PSP version was pretty good.
NHL '94 was an awesome game, fun times when games were still 2D, and multiplayer meant two people sitting in a couch playing together!
Oh and Ben that's 5-minute PERIODS, not quarters… because, well there are 3 periods in hockey, not four 🙂
That game brings back so many memories. I always used Detroit or the Kings. I'm not even a hockey fan and that game was addicting as hell.
Minesota North Stars and Mike Modano. Good memories.
I reordered this and received it in the mail today from Amazon. Thanks for reminding me about this, Ben 🙂
