Yesterday, we reported on a rumor that said the next Dead Space project had been canceled due to disappointing sales of the recently released Dead Space 3 .

However, EA has quickly cleared things up. PR Manager Jino Talens contacted us with the information that the rumors in question "are patently false." And while they haven't released sales data for DS3, they remain "proud of the game and it continues to be an important IP to EA."

This further proves that everyone should take headlines based on "anonymous sources" with a grain of salt. Furthermore, there's no doubt that Dead Space is still popular, despite some clear fan feedback. Considering the franchise still has a solid foundation of quality, we don't see any reason Visceral and EA shouldn't stick with these games. Besides, wouldn't everyone want to see what Dead Space will look like in the next generation…? I'm all for Dead Space 4 on the PS4, aren't you?

Not unless they go back to Survival/Horror I'm not interested. They shouldn't be proud of all those bad reviews. In related hilarity Jaime Griesemer, Lead Designer at Sucker Punch, asked if this confirmed that Dead Space 4 WAS in development, to which EA replied, "I confirm nothing except the hooey in that story."

Love a good retort.

Agreed. I loved the first one, only to be turned off by the demo of the sequel. When I heard that DS3 was even more about the shooting, I stuck a fork in the series.

I played the whole sequel, sold it. It was a movement in the wrong direction, and 3 just solidified that for me so I'm not bothering with it.

I'll pick up Dead Space 3 when it's cheaper. For now I'm getting through my back catalog in preparation for the PS4.

A Dead Space reboot or spin-off game that goes back to its horror roots that leaves the protagonist vulnerable would be fan-freakin'-tastic!! Better yet, co-op could be similar where both characters are separated and must work together through voice communication at certain moments! Finish the game as one character to unlock the 2nd character in New Game +! How awesome would that be!!!

And ditch microtransactions. It's a good tool for free games, but not games I already pay a lot of money for. (As if the online activation passes aren't enough, greedy EA pigs)

I couldn't even finish the DS3 demo, talk about shit. I absolutely loved the first game, probably my favourite game of the generation. Every time I try to play through DS2 a second time I can't, I just can't. I want to play through the third just because but I don't what will be cheap enough for me to bite.

That said, IF there's a fourth I really hope they learn from the falling sales what the fans want, and not try to woo some of the COD/Halo/Gears players to this franchise. We want horror, we're starving for it, DS3 and RE6 should be seen as signs that we don't want action games with a horror bend.

I really wish people would stop making then spreading rumors. What do they get out of it? It boggles my mind.

Remember when everyone was asking why RE5 couldn't be more like Dead Space? How did all of that support change EA's thoughts to "Lets make Dead Space more like RE5!" The reason the game was popular was because it was different from everything else on the market, I hope they realize that when they get around to making the 4th entry

Such a realization would require logical thinking, something found lacking at EA and many game companies lately.

Visceral took the most perfect third person shooter controls on a console and put them into a survival horror game.

Any franchise that steps away from survival horror and into action doesn't normally fair well.

Yes! Dead Space is still alive.
