Now there's an idea- A sci-fi Grand Theft Auto .
It has never happened but that doesn't mean it's impossible. In speaking to Ecrans (and as translated by OXM UK ), Rockstar boss Dan Houser said the idea of a GTA with a science-fiction setting is "very tempting."
However, they're not about to do it simply for the sake of displaying fancy sci-fi tech; Houser said the team would need "a good reason" to adopt such a theme. He admits they're not "necessarily the best writers" and that one of their biggest strengths is the "consistency of the game world." The bottom line is that they have to embrace a story to make that world work; Houser cites Red Dead Redemption and said the Western setting worked because they "had something to say." So for a sci-fi GTA:
"We have no interest in going into science fiction for the sake of flying cars and laser guns. The best science fiction stories are those that speak about the human condition. So while this idea is very tempting and, by definition, anything's possible in a videogame, we lack the essential thing for the moment: a good reason."
Me, I'm not a fan of sci-fi at all so I would hate this idea. But then again, I'd probably still play it because the game would be called "Grand Theft Auto." That sorta means I have no choice.
Related Game(s): Grand Theft Auto V
BLADE RUNNER!!! Nuff said! 🙂
Indeed. A Blade Runner-esque GTA game would be pretty cool.

Oh wow, that's an idea that never has struck my mind, but it would be so ridiculously cool that I don't have words to describe it.
And he knows his sci-fi too, cause the best sf is indeed the stories that comments on us humans today through metaphors and analogies.
But why make it inside the GTA franchise? Why not a new IP instead?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
GTA is JUMPING THE SHARK!!!!!!!
"Rockstar boos Dan Houser"?
I think you mean "boss" 😉
No, it's boos 🙂
They don't need to market GTA – it is cooler of them to take a laid-back stance. They OWN sandbox gaming, and the media attention and reviews for this game alone will be better marketing than any advertisement could possibly dream of creating.

I haven't watched star wars in like 3 years but i remember in the 2nd one, attack of the clones, obi wan like falls and you could see the bottom of the city. IOf the cities were layered like that i think exploration would be pretty unique and fun. I have more to add but for whatever reason firefox is lagging like crazy -__-
I hope naughty dogs next gen game is sci-fi
I don't know how I'd feel about that.
would defiantly be interesting, but i cant see R* doing it.
simply because they have become f*cking obsessed with reality, and its REALLY destroying the fun of their games!
exactly why i cant see this happening, there is no reality to base it on they would have to use their imaginations, which, sadly, have become non existent!
