This is what's known as an unfortunate business "oops."
Some customers who pre-ordered the special Wizard's Edition of the newly released and critically acclaimed JRPG Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch simply aren't getting what they ordered.
According to a GamesIndustry.biz report , some of those customers have had their orders canceled by distributor Digital River. This is a problem because this very limited edition has proven extremely difficult to find in the stores, and the Namco Bandai online store doesn't even have the regular edition now. The only solace those customers have is a $20 coupon for having their order canceled. Digital River issued the following statement in Namco Bandai's forums :
"We apologize for the discrepancies you may have encountered with your order of Namco Bandai's Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch – Wizard's Edition. As one of our valued customers, we want to assure you that a Digital River representative will be reaching out to you individually via email to address your specific issue. We sincerely appreciate your patience as we work through this situation."
Apparently, there was an error in the ordering system, which is never good. But here's hoping the situation is revolved quickly, so people can start playing one of the best RPGs of the generation.

Wow, seriously?
Did they underestimated Ni no Kuni that much?
They just underestimated customer interest in a JRPG due to sales of the bad ones this generation being low.
Wizard's Editions are going for up to $500.00 on ebay!
That's crazy!!
Scarcity = valuable .
Now I wish I got that version.
Apparently, an eBay seller (PlayCanada) was able to get their hands on a large number of copies of the Wizrd's Edition (via the NinoStarter campaign last year) but is now selling the copies at a premium price. Such a shame that those who've waited for so long and really wanted the said edition of the game were not able to get their copies.

That's great, this means the game is selling like hotcakes with coke on top… 😀
LOL
Let's face it. Most of the jrpg crowd still aligns with the playstation brand. Ni no kuni and tales of xillia are proof of that .
I don't know man, that new Xeno game on Wii U may be pretty hot stuff =) The original game has quite a reputation for itself this gen.
@Temnjin, I just saw the video of the new Xeno and it looks AWESOME! Is there a glimpse of hope this game could end up on PS3? Or is Monolith Soft owned by Nintendo?
with monlilth in nintendo's court, these wizards I'd say are locked down in Wii's domain.
That's rough for them but they get a pretty nice consolation prize, it's no wonder there is so much interest, NNK is really one of the greatest games of all time.
hey, so have you got your game yet? I want to wait but I'm just feeling the buzz over this game too much haha I want to be part of it.
Yeah I got it a few days ago, it's magical. Could be a watershed moment for JRPGs. It's grounded in an obvious 1950's youth innocence that uses common story tropes to comment more deeply on post-war anxieties and hopeful optimism by humanity in the face of fears about the future of globalization.
nice.. but are there any ninjas and is it better than FFXIII?
=p
I want to play this pretty badly.
lol I haven't found any ninjas yet, it isn't really comparable to FFXIII except to say that XIII disrespects the entire history of its own franchise and Ni No Kuni feels like an old school JRPG with all the updates one would expect from a current-gen game. It should be noted however that where most of the old JRPGs put a premium on how utterly strong and cool you could become in battle Ni No Kuni's battles are more about charming engagements. Your enemies are difficulties to overcome, not horrors to be killed.
So the best reason to play it is really to feel like a kid again; it is smile-inducing nostalgia on a Blu Ray.
seems to me smile inducing and warm hearted nostalgic joy is the point of the product. those who are glowing about the game seem to exude that excitement and give it a very strong recommendation. it seems to have this non-mistakable identity that sets it apart from the typical more serious-murder-death-kill games. This sort of thing leads me to think we may be seeing a candidate for goty.. not by psxe but by some others, like spike etc.

World the writing is objectively bad though, so what you said about the story just can't be true. It just can't 😉
Love your mini review and agree with it almost word for word 🙂
Glad to see you're enjoying it World, reading that got me very excited. I am counting down the days to the UK release 😛
The Wizard's Edition is pretty much sold out here in the UK. Mind you we only get the Wizards Book, Drippy toy and DLC characters. I am envious of that pre-order steelbook. But with GAME (the UK equivalent of Gamestop) I pre-ordered with them and they are giving a free Japanese version of the book. I know it's Japanese… but for free that isn't something to complain about 🙂
Oh man. Now I REALLY want Ni No Kuni. Damn backlog 🙁
I couldnt find this edition in the area I live in 🙁
I really wanted it, after seeing the wizards spell book it comes with man I just needed to get it. Sadly I don't think I will, as it is one of those rarities that is now going for like 400 bucks on ebay.
I made the same mistake with Shin Megami Tensei Digital Devil Saga, and Nocturne >.> Luckily I snagged those a half decade ago when the hype and price dropped a lot but still.
I really wanted to support these guys more but I couldn't find anywhere selling these 🙁
It also goes to show that people are still into JRPGs they just need to be packaged right.
One of my friends bought a PS3 last week for the sole purpose of playing this game 🙂 and one of her other friends and they are in love with the thing.
wtih the popularity looks like this game will be a hard to come by game better get mine asap.
My copy is en route to my house 🙂
Ordered early. No problems. Can't wait to play.
