Okay, so it's coming out a little later than expected. Many thought it would arrive in the first half of this year.

But as it turns out, Square Enix plans to launch Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 some time this fall . It seems it'll be a simultaneous worldwide release, so good news.

If you didn't already know, the game features the FFXIII protagonist Lightning going solo in her quest to save as many souls as possible before the world ends in 13 days. The setting is the city of Luxerion and characters from the series will make an appearance, as you might've already seen in the new Extended Trailer . The sequel will boast an overhauled combat mechanic that may be reminiscent of Kingdom Hearts and a more free-roaming structure.

For some hardcore followers, it's sacrilege. For others…well, they're trying to be optimistic, I guess.

Doesn't really matter when it comes, nobody is gonna buy it.

Good. The sooner, the better. Just release this game and Final Fantasy XIV already so we can move onto projects we want to hear about like Versus XIII, Type-O localization/HD remastering/porting, Final Fantasy X HD, and Final Fantasy XV (hopefully by Hiroyuki Ito).

Really? On the extended trailer it said Autumn, Either way I don't mind really, I can't say I am too hyped for this at the moment maybe when Summer hits and were in a drought for gaming, but for now I have far too many other titles to focus on. But the fact that I am distracted from a Final Fantasy release is worrying.

Huh? Fall is Autumn? You're not in the Southern Hemisphere, are you?

I highly doubt this will be the end of her. Someone at SE obviously is in love with her and will most likely continue to produce games with her in them.

Getting over the fact that it's different than your average FF title, it looks interesting. Seems like a mix of Assassin's Creed type of exploration.

"Different" is not the problem here.

"Worse" is the problem.

I'm all for change if it brings improvement. Final Fantasy seems to be heading in the wrong direction.

I've noticed the consistency of various american sites and how displeased they are over this game.

I read a pretty recent interview from another site. The director seems really out of touch with the english speaking folk and their interests.
He cited reasons for Lightning's prominence is due to how much people like her…

but who likes her?

I don't think I've read anyone actually liking her. Is Lightning the ideal Japanese woman or something? Because Kitase is responding to something or some data it would seem.

She looks good but her personality and role in FFXIII was pretty annoying at times and not very admirable. She seemed stiff, idealistic and lost in her head.

Lightning is the worst Final Fantasy Character ever, and easily the most unlikable main character in any game I can remember.

I don't know maybe some people like her because she is .. "cool" or she is a scrawny girl who can beat everyone up with ease…I dunno man.

What I do know is that it does seem SE is out of touch with its fan base.

I mean the whole point of versus was for it to have a combat system like Kingdom Hearts why they had to shove this one into the market when no one cares about it is beyond me.

I really can't see the reason for this game other than for someone at SE loving the character and wanting everyone else to love her too.

I do like Lightning in the first game, there's a reason why she acted that way in the early part of the game.

XIII-2 butchered her story.

So… Versus is definitely 2014 then?

No, Versus is definitely vaporware.

A recent interview with IGN would suggest that it isn't vaporware.

But to truly know we are going to have to wait, maybe we will hear something at the square conference next week?

Man, how many times do the words "still in development" have to come out of their mouths for it to sink in? Versus may have a name change and thus, very technically, not be released, but the title is coming. Any word otherwise is just dire opinion.

Square Enix is not going to release the game. They're just toying with everyone

I really like how quick SE is constantly pumping out trash like this while their games that people actually wait on are either vaporware or not even announced, looking at you KH3 and FF versus.

KH3 is far from vaporware. There has been plenty of momentum leading up to it. FF versus has no momentum what so ever.

There is a possibility that Versus 13 has gone multiplatform. In 2016 we'll be seeing Versus 13-2, and Noctis returns or Noctis forever.
