Previous Fallout 4 rumors have pointed toward a Boston setting, as the Bethesda team has apparently been scoping out the historic city.
That setting may have been pseudo-confirmed thanks to a Reddit user who also leaks a whole lot of other relevant information. Take it all with a grain of salt as none of this is official, but it's certainly intriguing on a number of levels.
Evidently, this virtual Boston "will be unlike anything we've seen in a Fallout game before," as the buildings will follow a cyberpunk or retro-futurism theme. In other words, you might not get that strict post-apocalyptic backdrop for which the series is so well known. Androids may also make an appearance as slaves to humans, and Bethesda could have ditched the Super Mutants and the Brotherhood of Steel due to fan accusations that the developer used these groups too much in Fallout 3 . Some agree with that, some don't.
As for the progression/leveling up, Bethesda probably won't do much to alter this system, although they do want to make it "more distinct from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim " because some said The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Fallout 3 were just too similar in terms of mechanics. So what do you think about all this? Were you a fan of the last Fallout and if so, what do you want to see in the fourth installment?
I blew up megaton in Fallout 3. Maybe they'll welcome me with open arms 😀 But seriously, i can't freaking wait for this game. I hope they keep the iron sights from fallout NV. I don't like the zoom in aspect of fallout 3 but thats about it. Fallout 4 is going to be amazing. I'm considering buying it for pc though, because of the mods. I like unlocking things without much hassle (like having to fight with computers to guess the right password. sure its cool but sometimes when im short on time i don't like waiting around)
As long as it keeps that 1950s feel about it I'll be quite happy. Fallout 3 remains my favorite RPG of this generation. Boston should be an awesome backdrop too.
I'd just like to see it be as massive a game as Skyrim is so I can enjoy that first playthrough for a very long time. F3 and NV were short by comparison even with all sidequests.
Agreed. Im over 100 hours into Skyrim, and have barely touched the main quest. Unfortunately the in depth nature of the game and my schedule, conflict and I just can't commit to it right now. But yes, having a Fallout game with that type of scale would be awesome! Just what I would want.

Oh yeah. When Fallout 4 is here I will never want it to end.
Sounds like that part of the country's been rebuilding… but Fallout doesn't work with cyberpunk to me. Interesting info, but I'll wait until the game is confirmed before getting excited.
i cant see a fallout game coming out anytime soon.
first off its so close to the release of next gen systems, so they will surely release it on them.
if they were to do that id take them a while to get the engine up and running, and after the debacle of skyrim there not going to be in a hurry to release it.
i doubt will be seeing a fallout game till probably 2 years after next gen systems release.
If the next generation consoles are x86-based with standard chipsets, and they highly likely are, then they already got a working engine to tweak on.
I bet Fallout 4 is released shortly after the new consoles are on the market. Ergo 2014.
no way, the game itself would take a while to create and half the teams still working on skyrim DLC.
plus skyrim came out just over a year ago so even if the majority of the team went straight onto fallout 4, a 2014 launch would only mean little over 2 years in development.
that wouldent be enough time to create the game, let alone create the game and tweak the engine for next gen systems.
its not going to be that simple either, i wouldent be surprised if next gen systems are built allot like the wiiu.
having a much larger focus on the GPU and using it to help out on tasks for the CPU.
you would hope so anyway, thats the way technology is moving.
They've probably been working on the game for a long time, you can do quite a bit even before deciding on the city. I think we will see it a year after new consoles come out. Bethesda is pretty big, Naughty Dog is pretty small and they snuck TLU development in.
they dident sneak anything in, they have been working on it since uncharted 2 released.
$ony expanded the studio after 1 released and the larger studio allowed them to finish off 2 pretty quickly so half the team went onto TLU and the rest went to uncharted 3.
bugthesdas different, the guys who did fallout 3 went straight onto skyrim, than a portions now working on DLC.
even if its a tiny portion of the studio, and yea there a massive studio, that still only puts a years work on fallout 4 by now!
probably wont have even finished conceptual design by now, the past year they had would of been spent on the engine and especially making sure its as platform par as possible.
last thing they can afford is to release a next gen engine and have it as inefficient and playing favorites as the current has.
fallout is not the linear corridor restrictive game uncharted is!
fallout 3 is my favorite, it had more of a post-apocalyptic feel to it than
fallout nv. plus in fallout 3 there were more ruins and buildings to explore.
New Vegas lacked much of what made F3 so great.
Fallout 3 was masterly made, while NV was "just a story", it didn't have the same atmosphere and felt smaller, kinda.

Loved Fallout 3.
I wouldnt mind if it has cyberpunk inspiration I just want the 50s influences to be seen. I hope its more of a mix of steampunk and cyberpunk with certain rich cities having those thems and then the wastelands still look all crappy and desolate.
It HAS to stay in the Fallout universe so it would sort of have to be a cyberpunk version of the 50's which could be really cool. We're used to cyberpunk being a vision that came out of the 80's of future technology in a dystopia, but imagine how they could use all that analog tech to make a semi-functioning Boston. So many possibilities.
If anyone is coming back to this thread I should tell you that Three Dog (Erik Dellum) has revealed via twitter he should be making a return.
Nooooooo.
I want a post-apocalyptic world still. It has to be, I mean, isn't that what Fallout is about?
"will be unlike anything we've seen in a Fallout game before,". Wait, so, it will actually WORK?! xDDD Oh, no de di'nt!
Aaaanyway. Taking away Brothers of Steel – poo. Was no joke, my favorite of FO3 & New Vegas.
The Level system. Please, PLEAAAASE! do not MAKE me choose a perk right after I get enough EXP. Let me ponder on it, man. Like in Skyrim. What a relief it is to actually pick something you DO want and not choose a perk because you're forced to do it by game's mechanic.
Otherwise. All the best to ya Bethesda. You managed to keep people playing your games, however FUCKED & Faulty they were. Just don't bother doing work if you're not willing to FINISH a game, yeah?
