An interview from Japanese site

with Tetsuhiko Yatsuda of Sony Computer Enterainment Asia, reveals that PS3 games may be available for download through Sony's online service. Furthermore, they would supposedly be far cheaper to buy direct through Sony than at retail. Mr. Yatsuda claims that this is to combat the widespread pirating of Playstation games in certain regions of Asia.

Whether or not this service will actually come to fruition or be offered globally is still unknown, but it wouldn't be surprising considering the company's long-time battle with software pirates.
