Hmm…this could've been interesting.

You know BioWare for popular role-playing franchises like Mass Effect and Dragon Age . But did you know they were once working on a "James Bond meets Jason Bourne" spy-themed RPG? Bet not.

According to Eurogamer , former BioWare producer Trent Oster revealed that the project initially had the working title of "Agent," the same as Rockstar's previously announced PS3 exclusive (which has since disappeared). Oster claims the project was was supposed "to do the other half of GoldenEye :"

"He's a suave manipulator, he's a talented martial artist, he's a secret agent. We wanted to cross that 007 with Jason Bourne, where he's been modified in some way; you're not sure what, but he's definitely deadly."

The idea was to include a lot of "very high drama" and "intense scenes" but ultimately, Electronic Arts just didn't believe in the project. And unfortunately, when the publisher isn't behind it, according to Oster, "it doesn't matter how hard you struggle, you just can't make it happen." Too bad, too. It might've been awfully intriguing.

My thoughts exactly!!

This is a bummer though. I really enjoyed Alpha Protocol to the point that I beat it a few times.

It is a genre that has yet to be fully explored, and all it's going to do is take someone with the money and guts to make it right!

I still have AP due to its uniqueness, I should make a concerted effort to get farther in it.

Oh man what a shame.
If there is one single thing I wish for the RPG genre, it is that it is getting a lot more diverse when it comes to themes.

It really is ridiculous: At Steam there is a "greenlight" feature, in that the members vote for new games to be included into Steam. And whenever there is a title popping up with a medieval theme, dragons and princesses and knights, you just *know* it's yet another fantasy rpg.

It doesn't have to be like this.

Completely agree. There are so many potentially awesome settings for an RPG, yet developers almost exclusively go to the "medieval and dragons and swords" setting.

Ahhh yeah! Another reason why Cyberpunk 2077 is making me MOIST! MOIST I tell thee!

Wow I didn't know about that one, Ludakriss! I googled it now, and omg this looks *sweet*. And it's made by CD Projekt, who also made The Witcher!

So there is hope after all!

Just Googled it, it sounds pretty cool. Hopefully this one will make it to PS3/PS4.

Beamboom, Eunoia_,

I only wish for you to read the latest update of their progress with the game. All you need to do is read a single excerpt from Mike Pondsmith and you'll get just as moist, as I have.

The level of understanding they have for this "genre" is…not for kids. They describe a world so complex and "nothing is what it seems" that I find find it baffling that you need a passionate Polish game dev until a subject like that gets a mention.

Anyway. I'm glad two more cool people know about this now. YAYY for gaming medium!

Peace n good gaming.

Lame! I would hate to be a developer under EA and Activision. Bioware has done more than proven themselves, but because it doesn't have ME in the title, "NO"! Lame! Sounded interesting from his quote and with an RPG theme!? Nice!

I know – how can anyone say no to *anything* from BioWare?!

Once again the corporate world crushes ingenuity and fresh ideas.

My first thought was that a spy themed game by bioware with a combat mechanic similar to kotor, with different actions planned out in advance of combat, followed by wicked action scenes used to carry out those commands could have made for one sweet game.

Thanks EA.

WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
but, but, but…….
oh come on that would of been freaking sweet!
alpha protocol, but made by bioware that would be the bees knees!
yay, yet another reason to loath EA!
yup, frank, this is why your company was voted worlds worst company!
100% deserving!
why is it the worst publishers own the best studios?
M$ owning rare, $ony owning their amazingly talented london and bend studio, EA owning bioware, DICE, criterion, antivision owning IW, beenox, raven software.
singularity is still the generations most underrated game!
oh what i would give to see publishers go up in smoke and all games became crowd funded!
that way unique talented interesting ideas were the ones that got made, not the boring uninteresting ones, the ones the big wigs THINK will sell.
and thats the problem, 99% of the time big wigs couldend see a good idea from a bad one if it was plastered all over their home!
