PS3, Vita, PlayStation Plus Enjoy Great Black Friday Success

Black Friday was good to Sony.

According to recently released official figures, one of the biggest shopping days and weeks of the year has resulted in a nice boost for Sony hardware and PlayStation Plus.

PlayStation 3 Black Friday bundle sales increased 15% and overall PS3 sales (including hardware, software and peripherals) grew 9% year-over-year. The Ultimate PlayStation Value Bundle, featuring a 250GB PS3, the Uncharted Dual Pack and the inFamous Collection for $199, "quickly sold out at retailers across the US." All told, more than a half-million – 525,000, to be precise – PS3 systems were sold in the US during Black Friday.

But don't forget about the PlayStation Vita, which also had a great showing. The Assassin's Creed III: Liberation bundle for $199 was sold out at retail and in fact, Amazon sold through its inventory in less than five hours. The Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified and LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes bundles (each priced at $199) were also quite popular. In all, over 160,000 Vitas were sold during the Black Friday week.

Said SCEA president and CEO Jack Tretton:

"We're very pleased with the Black Friday sales results, especially the incredible reception for the PS3 and PS Vita bundles. The demand was very strong which quickly depleted our inventory across retailers nationwide. The PlayStation brand generated significant revenue and year-over-year growth at retail because of our focus on what gamers love most in combining amazing hardware with great games and digital entertainment."

Gamers further took advantage of the PlayStation Plus premium PSN subscription, which also includes the excellent Instant Game Collection that currently features 18 games for the PS3 and Vita. Plus subscriptions were up a whopping 259% compared to last year's Black Friday term, and perhaps more importantly, customer satisfaction rates for the service are above 95%. Not too shabby overall, right?

That PS3 bundle was too good to miss, so I got one…

Good performance for Sony.

If I had the money I would have bought a Ps3 bundle. It's okay though, I own a second PSVita now. I can't get over how great party chat is. Use it almost every day.

I bought the PS Plus membership, just to get the Music Unlimited sale price for a year. Basically, it was the same price and anything else I might do in the next year is gravy.

ÃŒ purchased R&C collection, Journey collection and a new Super Slim Ps3 and all three purchases came with a voucher for a months worth of Ps+! THREE months in total, so I purchased Music Unlimited for $12 and for $12 only without having to pay for – say – 3 months of Ps+ 😀

I still have 2 months left, I usually only use it to take advantage of a deal of some sort. For example, Portal 2 was only $20 I believe?

Great stuff 😀

You saved money, actually, because of the additional sale. The Music Unlimited subscription is typically 9.99 per month. So for $12 a year for plus folks, you got plus and MU for literally half the price of what MU typically is. THEN you have the gravy. It's a steal.

I only hope the UK plus games come to the US. I prefer Crysis 2 and Batman arkham city instead of resident evil 5 and quantum something.

I found my friend that $199 bundle and he got it. That's a steal, console, 2 uncharted and 3 inFamous games? Nuts.

What's also very interesting is that the PS3 is the only console that exhibited increased Black Friday week sales YOY.

I did my part 🙂 I've been waiting for a good deal on a replacement PS3, and got a deal that was simply too good to pass up, $170 after rewards & statement credit for a PS3 + game bundle (too bad I already have all the Uncharteds & Infamous..) is pretty slick!

Even then though I had to force myself to buy it, since I really didn't want to buy the Super slim, but of course every BF ad was for the Super slim so I had no choice, oh well hopefully it's not as bad as I think…

But during black friday I went shopping and now my sisters and 2 brothers will be getting vitas for christmas. Now i will have Friends…LOL

That's awesome news, especially for the Vita. But I think the PS+ numbers might be a little misleading. Didn't most of those bundles come with PS+ vouchers?

I'm sure many of the people who got those vouchers will realize its value, but not all will turn into paid subscriptions.
