In our estimation, Dishonored should've sold more. But that doesn't mean it isn't a success.

In fact, the game has actually exceeded internal expectations, and Bethesda PR manager Pete Hines told Destructoid that such a solid reception will likely lead to sequels. Said Hines:

"I can tell you that Dishonored is far exceeding our sales expectations, which is especially cool considering it’s new IP facing a host of well-established franchises this quarter. We did terrific numbers again this past weekend, both in stores and on Steam, where Dishonored was listed as the #1 selling title over the holiday weekend. And Dishonored has really sold well overseas. So, we’re very pleased and appreciate all the fans that have supported Dishonored and [developer Arkane Studios].

We clearly have a new franchise."

Dishonored came in as the fourth-best selling game of October and although we don't have total sales estimates at this time, we're happy to hear this. Such a ridiculously awesome game deserves to be noticed, although given the story, we're not entirely sure how they'd do a sequel…

So glad this did well. I remember up until release people were saying it was either going to be great like Bioshock or be a broken mess.

I have a bit more faith in humanity knowing that this game sold well.

As long as bethseda keeps their MS loving hands off the game and leaves it to arkane, then yes it will become a great franchise. Still wouldn't buy it day one though. I don't like short games.

I enjoyed it as a 1 off. I don't know if I would like to pick up another game like this though, let alone a sequel. The story was very self contained, I wouldn't really be interested in seeing where else they'd try taking it.

I haven't played this game yet, more due to a lack of money than anything else, but it's nice to see new IP's doing well ūüôā

Hopefully I'll get to pick this game up soon, although I will admit that the only thing putting me off is the first-person perspective….
But never mind that, it's on my list.

That gives me a sigh of relief, if any effort deserved a franchise for having a well-thought out, far-reaching world it was Dishonored. Off the top of my head I could probably think of a dozen more directions this could go. Consider a dishonored whaling ship's captain for instance.

Good work Arkane, have a drink on me.

Awesome! Im sure sales will continue to be good for awhile since its getting alot of praise. I think Dishonored will win more goty awards than AC3.

*pops cork* – woohoo!

I am really very happy to hear this. I am actually relieved!

Now that Steam has arrived for Linux I am frequently checking out that store, and I've noticed Dishonoured climbed to number one on their chart.

This is one IP that most definitely deserves to become a franchise.

Steam was officially announced for Linux a few months ago and is in beta. But it's been playable on Linux for a while now if you used Wine.

Yes Steam on Linux is in a closed beta right now, but it's pretty stable and with updates coming at a steady rate so I assume it's going public sometime during December.

As for games there's more or less confirmed rumours over the entire board in regards to Linux support from various engines, so things are really, really gaining momentum now.

These days I am playing Serious Sam 3, Amnesia Dark Descent and Team Fortress natively on Linux and having a blast. A great time to be a Linux enthusiast!

A sequel to this game is probably the furthest thing from difficult. It doesn't have to center around Corvo Attano again; this time the Watcher cold bestow powers upon a new person with a new persona and history.

Pass. Dishonored was a huge let down for me considering all the hype it received prior to launch.

sweet!
id like to see them do something a little different though, its going to be hard to do a direct sequel.
id like to see it like AC, similar gameplay but in a totally different era, totally different weapons, and a totally different local.
oh, and dont forget to add WAY more ways to silently knock out enemies!
it amazes me how popular stun guns, and things like that were so popular last gen but current gen games have semed to have forgotten they exist.
i remember going onto the workshops roof and seeing that electric firing device, and thought oh that would be so cool if you could fire multiple beams out of it and adjust the amps to either stun or fry enemies!
maybe next time…….
