Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Currently Available On PSN

A little over a year ago, one of the most entertaining games of 2011 landed. It had its fair share of flaws, but Ace Combat: Assault Horizon was still a blast to play.

And now, Namco Bandai Games America Inc. has announced that the high-octane flight title is currently available for purchase on the PlayStation Network; it will debut on Xbox LIVE on December 18. Steam users have to wait until Q1 2013. Yep, Assault Horizon is goin' digital.

Featuring in-your-face effects and both co-op and multiplayer combat, Assault Horizon hits you right between the eyes and never lets up. It's not supposed to be a flight simulator; rather, it's designed to give you high-flying thrills without the tedium of learning and mastering intricately complex controls. And you gotta love the close-range assault system, which kinda makes you feel Godlike…

By the way, the standalone PSN version will cost you $19.99, while the one with extra DLC will run you $29.99. Ace Combat with the DLC pack features the Tokyo and Honolulu maps plus six additional aircraft: ASF-X Shinden II, F-15S/MTD, Su-37 Terminator, AV-8B Harrier II Plus, CFA-44 Nosferatu, and Ka-50 Hokum.

If you missed out last year, it's time to give it a try.

That's not the only thing that went digital today. Get this. Virtua Fighter 2 is on PSN. That's right. An awesome arcade port that I've wait forever for, complete with online play. I can pretty much retire from gaming happy now.

Do your part and spend the $5 and relive a classic!

I'm going to write SEGA and thank them for finally releasing this classic.

…and then ask them for Model 3 games, too =p

See, that's why I'm SO on the outside looking in with fighting games. I would never have guessed the appeal of VF2…mainly because I don't know enough about it and it just seemed like another fighter back in the day. 🙂

ah, yah, Ben, VF2 was a big deal. More so in Japan than in the states, but it still managed to garner a reputation for itself here, even if there wasn't too much American interest for it. Apparently when the game launched on Saturn in Japan a record number of "sick" days were recorded by various companies for an entertainment release. Don't quote me on that but I'm pretty certain that's what I read back then. Anyway, it sold 1.7 million in Japan alone. Pretty nice for a video game back then, a video game on Saturn.

As for the original arcade game, during 1994 the graphics were insane. 60fps and approximately 640×480 visuals with perspective corrected texture mapped polygons made it and other Model 2 based hardware games stand head and shoulders above everything else out there as far as 3D rendered game graphics go.
I remember salivating over the visuals back then. Thankfully, the Saturn port was quite excellent, even if it lacked the 3D polygonated stages.

My local arcade was too cheap to have one so I was stuck playing Tekken, the poor man's alternative at the time. Ultimately, Sega's costly hardware kept VF from proliferating at many US arcades, save it be for the biggest locations.

Anyway, now I get to be nostalgic with it and I love it. (except for the hideously cheap AI)

sweet!
1 game i really want to get back to.
only played a little of it than put it away far too many other games releasing around the same time!
RR undercover too, one day will revisit that was oh so much fun!
id love to see a sequel, but this time turn keep everything the same except make it a open world game like burnout paradise!
oh, and please NO COPS!
that, and the infinite freaking traffic really spoiled most wanted!
most annoying thing too cops ALWAYS attack you and ONLY you!
no matter whether your coming first or last ive NEVER seen a cop attack another racer!
hows that fair?

The first Ace Combat that I didn't "ACE".

I was left so frustrated by the fact that ACAH forces you to play with the assault system in order to get an Ace rating on the mission's, I got rid of it.

The 20 dollar price tag looks appealing though.
