We haven't heard much about Rainbow 6: Patriots since it was revealed back in March. Maybe that's because there's a chance the hotly anticipated title won't be available until the next generation of gaming.

In speaking to Polygon , Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said the game is definitely still in development but at this point, we might have to wait until a new set of gaming hardware is upon us. Said Guillemot:

"The only thing I can say is that we have a good team working on it, and it's really looking good. So when it will come, it will surprise the industry."

He added that he couldn't confirm an estimated release date and when asked if it might be a next-gen game, he replied simply- "There's a good chance it can be." Of course, that doesn't mean it'll only be available for the PS4/Orbis or Xbox 720; it just means it might also come out for one (or both) of the new platforms. Ubisoft still has to rely on the huge userbase of the current generation for super-huge titles like this.

So if it Patriots does turn out to be a next-gen game, that will be interesting, to say the least.

I hope so!

Like I said in a discussion with Big the other day: I wish ALL the great titles for next year was being developed for the next gen. Bioshock Infinite, the Lara Croft reboot, Watch Dogs, Crysis 3, GTA 5, all that stuff.
The more and better titles at launch of the next gen, the better! I wanna put my PS4 to work the SECOND it is in my home.

Wouldn't it be crazy if in the next gen they offered the equivalent of HD collections?

im not so sure thats a good idea.
if you have the games on both sides of the fence its just going to cause problems.
first of your going to have people saying oh i dont have to buy a new system for it i can get it on the system i already own.
than your going to have people say well what does the ps4 version offer that the ps3 version cant?
than all thats going to do is emphasize the differences between the 2 systems, and to be frank that looks like the LAST thing we need!
if all the rumors are accurate and $ony is going with PC type architecture, and next gen systems will be just a slight upgrade.
what we need is titles specifically made for next gen systems, and only next gen systems!
so that way not only will it fix those problems, but your also assured they were made the best they could be instead of thinking well they may of been held back because part of the budget was spent on the "lesser" versions.
leave them as exclusive launch titles, its just better that way.

@World; Yeah, it'd be very cool.

Now call me crazy but given the chance I'd even buy a PS4 version before I actually got the PS4. I've already started to be a bit hesitant in buying more PS3 games. And I'll definitely not buy more than what I got time to play.

@underline: Not sure if your reply is to World or me, but the quality of the games right after launch are typically not that much better than the generation we put behind us anyways, so that apparent difference would not be so great no matter what.

Let's hope Sony is ahead of their game and their 1st party devs are already deep, deep into squeezing the most out of PS4 hardware. But the multiplats (who let's face it is 9/10 games these days) will not at first be much different than the current gen games – it will just be easier to make them.

But frankly, that doesn't worry me. As soon as there are games released that conceptually benefit from the new opportunities the new consoles brings with them, we will start to see the real difference.

I am going to echo the sentiment that Beamboom posted.

The next generation of gaming can come, but there better be a treasure of games out there for me to buy!
