Unsurprisingly, the records are already starting to fall.

It's likely the first of several records Activision's blockbuster Call of Duty: Black Ops II will set in the near future, so don't be surprised to see a whole of similar headlines in the coming weeks and months.

Today, mega online retailer Amazon.com has announced that Black Ops II broke their record for the most pre-ordered video game of all time on any platform. It broke the record held by last year's Modern Warfare 3 (another big surprise), although they didn't provide exact numbers for either game. In addition, GameStop has previously revealed super-high pre-order numbers as well, and they're expecting BOII to become the biggest launch in their long history. By the way, just in case you had a bout of temporary amnesia, the new Call of Duty arrives tomorrow. Don't take the day off work or anything.

And by the way, if you're in the area, Amazon will be hosting a BOII launch party at the House of Blues on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles.

I'm actually really curious to see when CoD plateaus, because they can't keep these sales up forever can they? My guess is some new series will takeover in the next generation, what do you guys think?

I'm curious to see when it happens too, usually my many years of experience tell me exactly what's going to happen but this time I'm stymied due to the influx of casuals this gen.

A new series from Activision will take over and they will milk the living s**t out of that as well. GUARANTEED.

It went from Guitar Hero – > COD – > ????

looking forward to this, MoH was such a let down 🙁 I need a good twitch war FPS!

where will it level out and stop being interesting, Hmmmm… I would put money on next gen.
I just think that they will need to bring something out that will force COD players in to a different genre of FPS, in one way killing this cod trend but then creating another. like this COD MMO that has been mentioned, something like that could work brilliantly, but if it was as open and as huge as people hope it will be then 6 monthly installments of COD would have to dry up.. I guess that's when Micro transactions take over.

but then maybe it will never ever dry up… fizzle out or die?

I only preordered this game because amazon gave me a code for $12 off.
So $48? Yes!

Yay! Once it's out we can stop talking about it. The extent of my experience will likely be playing co-op at a friend's house under the influence of substances (as CoD is meant to be played).

Since Word at War, CoD has been getting more and more popular and I thought it couldn't get more popular after Black Ops.

Other company can learn a thing or two from Activision, no, not in terms of game quality but in terms of marketing.

According to Nostradamus and the Mayans, the COD bubble will burst in 2042 – yes thats right – long after the world is scheduled to end – COD will continue light years away.

Better get my head down and get a few hours kip before this midnight opening malarky. Planned my vacation strategically this year – wife not happy …

And this year I even got the package with a remote helicopter to play with. yippee

During the day tomorrow, I'll be chowing down on some Burgertime at my centrally-located Intellivision Diner.

"Hold the pickles,
hold the lettuce, special orders don't upset us".

Then later in the evening, I'll have another helping of some "Damnation" Steampunk desert.

Damn, I'm already feeling a bit bloated…..

picked up the hardened edition today shocked they actually still had some in stock!
every previous year if you dont preorder the standard edition, it sells out on release day!
the LE and super expensive editions sell out months in advance, but this time they had heaps in stock on launch day.
even had a few care packages in stock.
shocked, has the bubble finally burst or is it just a case of oversupply?
im betting the latter.
