It has been long since rumored that Grand Theft Auto V will feature multiple main characters. And now we learn that it's true.

As we all know by now, the December issue of Game Informer will boast a huge feature on the anticipated blockbuster (18 pages!), and they've given us a peek.

There will be three protagonists in GTAV: One is apparently an "East Coast gangster" while another has been seen in previous promos. The third is unknown for the time being. This will be the first entry in the long-running franchise to boast more than one main character; each has really only included one…and we all know who they are. Personally, I'm partial to Tommy Vercetti in Vice City .

More information on GTAV is inevitable, so stay tuned.

Tommy Vercetti is the coolest protagonist, San Andreas the best sandbox, while a close tie between SA and VC in regards to story.

GTA4 is the… Uhm… Forget GTA4. Bring on GTA5!

The star of GTA4 was the realistically unfun city.

Hmm.

I'm kinda partial to playing as one main character but I'm sure I'll dig it when all is said and done…

edit/ Yeah, Vercetti was the best lead in the series. How can you go wrong with Liotta?

Awesome. I definitely want to see how Rockstar can weave the threads together. I hope it's a bit more convincing than it was in the Episodes of LC, and I hope that the three characters actually feel different in the way they play. Too many games mention multiple playable characters, only to have them as carbon copies.

Now, now Lawless. Don't get too excited ;P

Perhaps one may be a female lead character this time?

Tommy and Vice City was the best IMO. SA wasn't bad but didn't like 4 at all. Heres to hoping GTA5 is Da Bomb.

Just wanding if there maybe any word on a GTA collection in the works? I would so love that to happen.

I think there is one on steam actually. I'm sure one will come out for the consoles eventually.

Guys check out this:

I'm kind of disappointed that we can't buy properties. Though I'm interested in what else we can buy, as they mentioned.

Magazine GI learn from his mistake. They stop posting as main feature and of course front cover game with more than a year to be released. Good examples are Borderland 1(now a completely different game of what they show on the magazine) among others.

hmmmmmm, this could end REALLY badly!
reminds me of yakuza 4, having multiple main characters just convoluted the story and makes it that much harder to tie everything together.
im very weary of this, it just seems like R* is trying to be a little too not only ambitious, but also “series first” if that makes sense.
im worried their biting off more than they can chew.

I see what you are saying but why does the story of the 3 characters have to be tied together? If the map is a huge as they are saying it will be, these characters could possibly never cross paths and could have 3 totally different stories with many different people to interact with.

With that said, it would be cool if the character stories are intertwined and you see things happening from different views at different points in the game. I have faith that Rockstar will do this game right. With the exception of the dark, grittiness of GTA4, I have loved every game that Rockstar has had a hand in. I still liked GTA4, it's just not at the top of my list.

exactly my point though, it just seems there biting off too much.
whats the point of having multiple stories if there not going to intertwine?
just seems like a wasted added effort.
regardless though, point is having multiple stories is just creating more work for them and for what?
if it was going to make the game better than ok, but i cant see that, all i see is making it worse.

I can't believe there is so much hate for GTA IV. While VC and SA were great fun, I think that IV was the first GTA, hell the first Rockstar game, to have a main protagonist that was truly likeable, the first protagonist that I actually cared how the story ended for. GTA IV was the Rockstar game in my opinion that set into motion the great scripting that followed with RDR and LA Noire. Never played the Max Payne series, so they may be undiscovered gems on my part.
