Gran Turismo 5 Passes 9 Million, Series Sales Near 68 Million

It's a pioneer in the racing genre and as far as I'm concerned, it deserves every last one of those sales.

Developer Polyphony Digital has issued updated sales stats for the legendary Gran Turismo franchise: The award-winning series has hit 67.89 million worldwide; this is counting all copies sold since the original GT dropped back in the first PlayStation era. I remember, do you?

The most recent console iteration, Gran Turismo 5 , has sold 9.1 million units since its launch in late 2010. That's pretty damn impressive considering that the game is only available on one platform. However, if you're wondering which title in the franchise holds the current sales record, it's easily Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec , which is closing in on 15 million. I still remember that GT3 was probably the first true system-seller for the PS2. Now, how's about some GT6 news, Polyphony…?

Nice. I still power up GT5 every so often. It just keeps on giving. Easily one of my most valued experiences from Sony.

See, Yamauchi, there's no need to make GT more accessible for the arcade crowd. People like things how they are. Keep it REAL =p

I was hoping you would post a news thread on this, Ben!

Everyone on the net should really take notice to these staggering numbers.

Back in 2010, several reviews out there failed to get a hold of how much GT5 brought to the table as the focused on the "negativity" of the Standards (for example). In the mean time, online competition, weather effects and night racing which were new to the series were never taken into the equation.

GT5, despite warts and all is a major seller (still) with alleged “superior” console racing games out there. It is the same thing year in and year out, yet Gran Turismo is still around.

Gran Turismo as a series is fine (could be better than ever) and GT6 will sell exceptionally well.

So to all those who have taken their fight to the net, by all means keep finding all the flaws and continue rushing to webesites to make your presence felt in cyberspace while myself and millions of others will be enjoying GT5.

So thanks Kaz and PD for your efforts, and as always, you have my money!

Well, conidering that FM4 has barely sold over 2 million, I would say GT5 has given it two black eyes!

Enduring… I haven't popped GT5 in for a long, long time. I should probably get to that.

Probably will eventually reach 10 million but it's been 2 years now, slowest selling GT at the moment?

Not necessarily. I read on GTPlanet that GT5 is doing as good if not better than GT4.

GT5 continues to prove that GT is *THE* driving simulator.

My cousin has a cockpit, and it just makes the experience so much like the real thing, driving in a race car.
