Crysis 3 Seeks A “Solid Middle Ground” In Regards To Freedom

Personally, I thought Crysis 2 was way better than the first. But some people missed the freedom of the original title.

The sequel was admittedly more linear (which I never mind), but a number of fans are hoping for a return to open-world goodness. According to what producer Michael Read told OPM UK , the new entry won't be open-world, but it won't be quite as narrow as Crysis 2 , either.

Basically, they're going for a "solid middle ground." Read said the first two games were "different extremes" and each had their own merits and faults, but he reminded us that some freedom still existed in Crysis 2 . As for Crysis 3 :

"We really have a solid middle ground between the two games that allows the player to approach challenges in dynamic ways while still keeping them focused on the endgame goals. The ability to replay the action sequences in different ways really added a lot while still keeping the player focussed on a goal.

The environments are definitely one of the biggest changes. We were really able to identify a lot of the merits from the first two games in terms of the environment and capitalize on those for Crysis 3. The mix between broken down urban, lush rainforest, and more open spaces only helps to reinforce this experience."

Crysis 3 is due out in March and not only should it once again set a high technical bar, it should also be one of the very best games of the year.

i actually prefered the more restricted nature of crysis 2 simply because it actually made it feel more open in a way.
crysis was one big open world so it was just one area, but crysis 2 was like 4 smaller worlds all separated so you can really take advantage of how you want to play and pick which path you want to take.
if the games so open which path you take does not really matter because characters will just move across if their alerted.
if you have separate sections than you have certain enemies assigned to each area.

judging off the playable demo hes right, its more open than 2 but less than the original which is fine by me.
they had the demo from E3 playable a few weeks back, level design is allot better than 2 but im really pissed to see the AI STILL has not been fixed!
one thing i HATED about crysis 2 was you make a sound, or silently kill someone, no matter what you do, enemies instantly know where you are even if there not facing you!
i mean most stealth games if enemies suspect you they go looking around trying to find you, but in crysis 2 and 3 there is no alerted state they instantly magically know where you are.
pisses me off!

I too think crysis 2 is the best so far, with a good margin even.
Can't wait to get back into the suit. This is THE shooter next year for me.

I enjoyed the first Crysis the most, but 2 was good also. I love the open world and can approach enemies from any direction – most of the time.

And for me the 3D was better in Crysis 1.
