For many, the most anticipated game of the year is not Call of Duty: Black Ops II .
In fact, it's a game that comes out a little earlier and delivers a very different kind of gameplay experience. It's the blockbuster that will be Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed III , and it'll be here on October 30. A week and a half, my excited friends.
And as the launch date is closing in fast, you might start seeing a lot more in the way of promotion and advertisement. That could include this North American TV ad, which proves that perhaps the pen really is mightier than the sword or rather, that the pen solidifies what the sword has wrought.
Amid all the talk about the game's fantastic mechanics, new engine, and sweeping vistas, it's oddly easy to forget the story and setting. This is perhaps one of the most compelling environments ever found in video game history: The American Revolution, depicted in a way never seen before, reminding us all why we have holidays like July 4th, and why we can never forget the sacrifices made. So get up and get all patriotic on the day before Halloween…your very young country needs you.
Wow, such an amazing commercial. I'm just curious Ben, when will you be putting up your review? Do you get an early copy of AC3?
I should. But it all depends on the embargo date, which is usually launch day.
Why does IGN post reviews of games well before launch day? They've had Forza Horizon review for a few days already… The game is out on the 23rd btw.

No idea. They flagrantly break embargo dates and basically nobody else does. I guess they just don't care.
I never understood, what is the point of review embargoes?
@A Cappella Dude
I believe it's so they can get their money from preorders or first day buyers. If their game sucks it's going to lose a lot of money.
Yes, but if the game rules, it would help a lot. I've never understood the embargo thing, either, to be honest.
Ben, are we going to get a ACIII liberation review ?… please:)
Of course. 🙂
Killa Tequilla,
Not that breaking embargo's ahead of time to get on-site traffic sooner has seemed to help them much, since IGN has been up for sale for at least a week now, that I know of.
I'll wait for a complete edition, but man this is crazy… I don't remember the last time I've gone into the holidays without any new releases on my buy list. Just waitin' on Ni No Kuni here.
Ni No Kuni is going to be GOTY material! I am highly anticipating that one myself.
A truly amazing commercial! I have seen it 3 times already. Going to be a great experience.
saw a new desmond trailer yesterday teasing his involvement with the game.
it was funny while waiting in line to play AC3 the other weekend everyone was arguing on what final role he will play, and whether this will finally wrap the story arc up or not.
it freaking better, if ubisoft pulls another red herring there going to have one hell of a angry mob to answer too!
i hope the glyphs are back from AC2 as well, they were so much fun to solve!
same as the platforming puzzles for desmond from revelations, added a much needed character background story.
This trailer is craaaaazy.
Man, I love this commercial.
Which also brings up another point….
It's a crying shame when a Montreal company knows & cares more about our constitution, Bill of Rights, and freedoms, than our own American government anymore.
Maybe it's time to rise up for another Boston styled Tea Party action.
