The fans have been begging for it, and now it's here.

Today, Sony Network Entertainment International and Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. have unveiled the new-look PlayStation Store for the PlayStation 3.

The update features a "completely redesigned, rich user interface, with easy search and powerful content discovery through the integrated catalog of more than 20,000 pieces of game-related content including downloadable games, add-ons and themes and over 100,000 videos and TV shows." This drastic overhaul now delivers overall easier navigation so we can peruse what Sony is calling "an unprecedented amount of content" on the Store. Furthermore, product pages now offer in-depth info about games, providing users with a "rich visual experience similar to the advanced high-definition games only found on PS3." So now even our searching is flashy!

Please bear in mind that the new Store is currently only available in Europe. It will go live for US gamers next week on October 23 (same goes for Canada, Brazil and Mexico), and Japan will receive the update "later this year." Odd to see Japan get anything late in the video game world, isn't it? Or maybe I'm just old.

You like the original? You mean you liked it when the store was just a website? I sure didn't :p

No, I just meant I don't have any problems with the way it is now. But I am open for something new and looking forward to it.

Had a big of glance at it already and my first impression is it's a fantastic update. Though the download list still needs work and still is a sprawling mess.

Damnit, that was the biggest issue with the old one!

I didn't have any problems with the old one and so I hope it's an improvement and that it's not all about the latest and highest reviewed games.

FYI,

For those who haven't gotten the update yet, you can still beta test the new PS3 system portal.

Just go in to the web browser & then clink on the new beta icon.

Just an update on this story…we had the new store but there were problems so Sony have temporarily put the old store back up. It had something to do with topping up our accounts. It might be related to the rumoured addition of Paypal.

Oh man I sure hope you're right about incorporating PayPal into the store, as that would certainly make things so much easier than having to drive over to GameStop for PSN cards all the time.

This isn't confirmation or anything Biker, but here's my source…

It is now, it's awful. You it loads it up as a seperate software like Netflix so it takes a while to run then when it is up it takes a moment to load… I was content too quickly popping on the store weekily to see what is new, but the loading of this new program makes it very tedious.

As for the layout itself it is pretty good, it's all layed out in tabs that extend as you click on them and it also gives you the option to change the order of the items, though trying this right now it took 20 seconds just to load the list without pictures…

Overall I can accept it, I just wish it opened up on the XMB like the old one did rather than going into it's own program…

it should speed up over the next couple of days but theres a ton of other bugs that need to be worked out. I went on it earlier and it didn't even recognise me as a plus member even though i have 16 months left on my plus. No did it prevent me from purchasing thing i already own on the store by place a red shopping marker next to it. It looks nice but not sure i'm all for it.

I'm pretty worried about this now. It doesn't look any simpler, or faster, but it does look a bit more appealing visually. I don't know if it's a worthy trade-off though.

shame they had to take it down.
🙁
oh well nice to see the store getting a much needed coat of paint!
hope they have upgraded the servers too, its ridclious how freaking long it takes to download things!
takes me longer to download demos off the store than it does to download WHOLE games off steam!
WTF!?
1GB takes longer to download than 15GB+.
makes perfect sense………..

now all we need is a redesigned XMB and $ony will have finally entered the 20th century!

Since when have people been "begging" for a new update, everybody I've talked to about the store said it was fine the way it was, and this is actually the first I've heard of a store update.
