If you've been following along on Facebook , the fans have been voting on the most Epic Moments in the history of the esteemed God of War franchise.

And as revealed over at the PlayStation Blog , the top moment has been chosen…if you've loved all the games in this award-winning series, there's no doubt you recognize it.

It's the awesome confrontation between Kratos and the massive Ares; the very man (or God) that essentially enslaved Kratos, that forced the legendary Blades of Chaos on him, that eventually, ultimately, got his comeuppance. There have been a ton of memorable moments in this franchise, but I'd have to agree with the fan selection. Nothing leaps to mind that outstrips the final boss battle with Ares in terms of sheer size, scope and atmosphere. It was just so bad-ass from top to bottom, you know?

Check it out for nostalgia's sake:

I personally think the fight with Poseidon was more epic. But the fight with Zeus at the end of GoW3, the 2D scrolling part, was also impressive, and the Titan level-boss fight (GoW3)… Jeez, who am I kidding the whole series is one epic scene from beginning to end! EPIC!

Yeah that was one epic scene, but for me personally it will always be the end of God of War III when I slugged Zeus in the face for 15 minutes straight because the game never told me to stop. BANG BANG THUD SMASH THUD THUD BANG CRACK!

Heh… I thought the game had played up when I got to that part because the prompt never disappeared. Ended up reloading and doing the whole battle over again. Stupid me.

I agree World, but when I realized I could stop, I threw in a couple more just for the hell of it.

ROTFLMAO!!!! Not sure which is worse. This, or when Naked Snake was standing over an almost dead Boss for 10 min because I thought the game had locked up and hadn't saved in like 3 hrs. Oh……….the square button……….got it. Uncharted 2 & 3 comes to mind a lot as well. "Oh, I'm no longer an audience, but the actor. Wonder why Drake just kept standing there." 🙂 To me, the most epic GOW moment was right at the end of 2 when he was ascending the mountain with the titans. "Zeus, your son has returned! I bring the destruction of Olympus!!!" Que badass music……fade to black! It was the only time in videogame history I remember being like "Yeah!!! and Noooooo!!!!! at the exact same time. Second to that was in Ghost of Sparta when the Athena statue was decapitated because, well, Kratos just needed her to take a sip from a shut the fu cup.

Jawknee at the time that occurred, I felt like the host of my very own Head Bangers Ball.

That had to be one of the strangest development oversights I've seen, but it will always stick out my memory now 🙂

Stomping Helios then tearing off his head with your barehands was pretty damn epic.

Agreed. Ending Poseidon with a set of thumbs was pretty satisfying because it felt like R3 and L3 were his damn eyes. Especially since I was eating pizza and the sticks were pretty greasy at that point, lol. Ahhh, goosebumpies.

Playing through that clone fight in god mode difficulty was about one of the hardest things I have ever done.

Ya know, I think 2 was the only one I can beat on the hardest difficulty. Couldn't get past clones on 1, couldn't do that damn labyrinth box in 3, couldn't kill final boss in COO, couldn't get past the 475 blue men carrying giant skull balls in GOS. That's their official name……I looked it up.
