After I realized that The Last Of Us couldn't possibly make it this year, and after I got it through my thick totally in-denial skull that Grand Theft Auto V wouldn't make it, either, I had turned my attention to Bioshock Infinite .

I figured the Game of the Year race would come down to Infinite and Assassin's Creed III …and then Bioshock disappeared into next year and I got all depressed. Bioshock and Bioshock 2 remain two of my favorite experiences of this entire generation, and everything about Infinite just looked jaw-droppingly awesome.

But the more I think about it, the more I think we've got a very Bioshock -like game in the new title from Arkane Studios and Bethesda, Dishonored . Artistically, it looks closer to an Elder Scrolls adventure (no surprise there) but gameplay-wise, the game could be much closer to the fantastic franchise from Irrational. Dishonored is much more linear than something like Skyrim ; there are places to explore in the city, but there appears to be more of a focus on the story. Furthermore, the combination of skills is very much like Bioshock in my eyes; that mix of magic and physical capability seems familiar… Familiar and comforting, I say.

Granted, Bioshock is a first-person shooter blended with an RPG, while Dishonored is more of a straight RPG without the shooting. But even so, with my precious Bioshock Infinite gone away into February of 2013 (and it had better release then, despite the internal problems we've been hearing about), I have to think Dishonored is close…and I hope it turns out as expected. Stay tuned for the review, coming soon.

I dont mean to be a debby downer but you say in the article that Bioshock is a Third-person shooter, you might want to edit that to first person 🙂

But I agree with this article, dishonored really reminds me a lot of bioshock, and a little bit of thief too.

I'm hoping it delivers and sells well. I like when unique IPs and new ideas get rewarded.

That's not being a downer, that's telling me something that really needs to be fixed. 🙂

I'm all kinds of excited for it, I really hope I'm right about this one. Kinda got my psychic powers on the line here along with my money 🙂

The steampunk style and creative power use tells me it will be a great fit into Infinite's previous time slot. Those of us taking the plunge will know on Thursday.

I love new IPs, gives me something to look forward to what with so many franchises deliberately going downhill this generation.

Guys, better start saving money.
Instant noodles for months you must.

If 2012 was bad with Black Ops 2, ACIII and Dishonored, how can we endure it with possibly GTAV, TLOU and Bioshock next year?

Don't forget the possibility of Beyond: Two Souls releasing next year as well.

I reckon it'll be a good trade-off. Arkane may not necessarily have the greatest track record, but Dishonored is looking cool as f**k. Makes me kinda sad >.>

Still, poo-poo for Bioshock getting pushed. Means I have to miss out on it for what could be a good long while. Too bad. I can live without.

I would not trade Infinite for any other title planned for release the next 12 months.

But Dishonored, Far Cry 3, Crysis 3 and Watch Dogs in the meantime? Sure!

Nicely said Ben and we can only hope that DH is anywhere near Bioshock's greatness. If that happens then Dishonored 2 will go into development and Arkane Studios once again proved that a new IP can be successful. I just preordered DH off of the PSN. Really excited for this one. The backlog is as big as it has every been and getting bigger!

Dishonored looks good, but I don't necessarily think that it's game of the year material. It definitely looks like it has potential as a new IP, but I'm going to have to give the GOTY to Assassin's Creed 3, to me it just looks more polished and full of gameplay features. But we'll just have to see in the coming months 🙂 either way, this is a great time to be a gamer, there are so many polished huge games coming out it's just insane.

I'd say that we did better this way, never got into the Bioshock games. They just weren't ever interesting to me at all…
