Have you hit the level cap in Borderlands 2 yet? No? …well, what's taking so long?
Gearbox's epic adventure is big. It'd take some time to max out a character. But if you're a dedicated championship gamer like Matt Siegfried, you take that length (and the requisite difficulty) as an acceptable challenge. In other words…bring it.
And so, after picking up the amazing Borderlands 2 at a midnight launch, he went home with the burning desire to be the very first to hit that Lv. 50 cap. Well, he has apparently done it , maxing out in exactly 43 hours and 15 minutes. You can see his entire run at the linked TwitchTV page, but we recommend not spending 43 hours watching it. It's enough to know he did it.
I have to say, though, being nothing but a lowly slow player, these speed runs confuse me. I don't even know why I'd want to do such a thing, other than to set the record. Great games are meant to be savored. Hell, I tried to make each Uncharted last weeks (even though that turned out to be impossible). What's this new obsession with going as fast as humanly possible? Savor, I say, savor .

I agree Ben, it's like being at the best restaurant in the world and just scarfing it down in 5 minutes, such a waste.
I've noticed lots of people on my buddy list playing this. I'll probably wait for it to be free on PSPlus.
But by then your buddies will be done with it lol. This game is great alone but the coop and online coop is where it shines most 😀
That's okay I'm not gonna lose sleep over it, even co op doesn't really grab me unless it's with someone I know in real life who I can chat with about it later.
NOOOO, You gotta get it now!!
I got Dishonored comin!
Must be one of those guys we read about and see on the news that go to the hospital for gaming too long.
On the other hand, I personally have no desire to spend money on a game for the sole purpose of seeing how quickly I can finish it. I want some fun please.
Hmmm, I wouldn't call whizzing through a game just be be known as the Speedy Gonzales of Borderlands, any kind of dedicated gaming.
I'd call playing a game a bit more normally in order to enjoy it to it's fullest, now that's what I'd actually call a dedicated gamer.
But more power to him if that's the only major way he can get his enjoyment in life…….whatever
I want this but I need to save. 🙁
It looks much better than the first one.
I can't get past the tutorial in the first one. I mean I could, but it's so boring.
It's like the people who post on topics "first!" when they're the first post.
I ran into a guy earlier tonight that had logged over 300hrs in GW2. That's over 8hrs a day since its launch. I'd like to see how healthy these people are.
I agree with you. I went to some pro Starcraft 2 games in Korea however and they mostly looked healthy, had hot girlfriends and sports cars.
Damn. I wish I could play console games for a living and live like that!
What I want to know is, do they have a job? If no job and no school do their parents just support them to do this?
In terms of Starcraft 2 they make lots and lots of money, but for the MMORPGers, I guess their parents just don't care ;P
some people have WAY too much time on their hands!
You want to know why a gamer would WANT to do this? There is a trophy for hitting level 50. You want to be the first one to have the Borderlands 2 platinum, you need to be the first one to hit level 50. The trophy whores have websites showing member leaderboards for things like this. Beyond a doubt, that's why this nut raced through B2.
I like speed running in games when it is a mode or a challenge built into it.
For example Rayman:Origins had the BEST speed run challenges me and my friends have done in a long time. We also had fun with the speed run challenges in Alien Swarm.
Now I never do a speed run if its not built into the game my first play through. If its a game that has the speed run feel to it I might go for one my second try. But in general I only like doing them if they are built in challenges.
I still cant believe he hit it that fast. I think I'm doing something wrong as I feel like I'm leveling up really slow in borderlands 2. Maybe its because I'm spending a lot of my time going for badass challenges : who knows. Still a great game but I can't pull myself away from guild wars 2 long enough to sink enough time into it yet.
The last game I did a speed run on was Super Mario Bros. Yeah, the original.
43 hours….that's just crazy.
reminds me of the South Park WOW episode:
"How do you kill that which has no life?"
