But as you might've anticipated, this is no ordinary treasure chest. We haven't taken leave of our senses and posted up a story about how Borderlands 2 has chests, and this is just a picture of one of them. No, not crazy yet (check back in November).
This chest is special because it can only be opened if you signed up for the Premiere Club, which could've easily been done had you pre-ordered the hotly anticipated sequel. Or maybe you got into the Club by a giveaway or some other means. Either way, doing so netted you a Golden Key, which opens that chest. Now, the interesting part, as described in the Gearbox forums :
The loot in that chest is always "very rare" (of the purple quality) and the items within will be scaled to your character's level. In other words, if you open it immediately upon seeing it when you're a lower level, you'll get lesser stuff, even though it'll still be "very rare." If you wait until you're higher in level, the equipment will be more powerful. …so, which is it? Awesome stuff now or later? Decisions, decisions.
And no, you can't open it twice or anything.

Exactly. Open at 50, then hold in reserve for the kickass DLC that will surely come.

That said, can we expect an article on the chests in DOA5?

True, however the fact that the loot would scale was not confirmed until this past Wednesday. There are still gonna be a lot of folks who didn't read the Gearbox post (or stories about it, like PSXE) and will go in and open it right away.
I see it as less of an issue of patience and more of an issue of ignorance.
