It'd be impossible to not recognize the deep, booming bass of Michael Clarke Duncan.
You've seen him in "The Green Mile," "Armageddon," and "Daredevil," among other movies, and he lent his great voice to several animated shows, including "Teen Titan," "Family Guy," and "Spider-man: The Animated Series." But he has also been involved in the video game industry for a while.
Duncan was in most of the God of War titles, and you would've heard him in the Saints Row games as well. His list of credits even extends to The Suffering , SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs , Soldier of Fortune , and Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone . So it's very sad to learn that Michael Clarke Duncan has passed away , apparently due to complications after having a heart attack in July. He was only 54.
Sadly, I'm reminded of the scene in "Armageddon" where a doctor tells Duncan his cholesterol is "shockingly bad" and the big dude rips off his shirt and poses. …but unfortunately, big doesn't necessarily translate to healthy. Rest in peace, Michael; here's hoping another mysterious realm is already enjoying your voice.
I was shocked when I saw this on the news, that voice was just instantly recognisable. Rest in peace Michael.
I couldn't believe it when I read this yesterday. The man got cast as the Kingpin! His voice was instantly recognized when playing GoW II..rip Mr. Duncan
I was sad to read about this morning, his performance in The Green Mile was very sweet and tragic, his reaction to watching Tophat is just one of those magical moments in cinema. RiP.
First time I noticed him, I was watching Jason X. Heart attack, the # one killer. (RIP)
I saw this mentioned elsewhere, and wasn't sure of the truth of it. What a shame, very cool voice and nice guy. He'll be missed I am sure.
R.I.P. gentle giant
Very very sad, I didn't know he was in all those games as well. I feel for him and his family. Take care out there MCD.
Classic socom servers get shutdown and then the voice of Wardog passes away. Sad week indeed.
I was shocked when reading this yesterday that he had passed, i loved all of his movies , his voice was amazing, RIP MCD.
I was really shocked and saddened when I heard the news. He had such an amazing on screen presence, and not just because of his size. He was hilarious in Armageddon, and The Green Mile is one of my all time favorite movies. I don't recall who did win the Oscar that year, but he more than deserved it. Such a sad day. R.I.P big guy.
I don't watch the news very often and I just found out about his death on this site. I really liked Michael Duncan and he will be greatly missed. R.I.P.
So sad, rest in peace.
he was a legend among actors. i read the book of the green mile and when he was in the movie he did an amazing job. the world has lost an amazing actor. he seemed like he would have been an awesome guy to hang out with.
i was shocked to find out he was the kingpin. in armageddon he was one of the best actors in the movie. frankie figs in the whole nine yards. he was in sin city. voiced on family guy a few time. seriously look up the amount of work he has done and you will be amazed. he even has 3 or 4 movies still to come out.
R.I.P. sir you will be missed.
You'd think with all that wealth and free time, these people would have no excuse for being unhealthy. Anyhow, he was a fine actor, and a big teddy bear. He'll be missed.
Shams, don't be so obtuse.
He became vegetarian in 2009 and his health improved and he dropped 90 pounds because of it.
i remember MD mostly from armageddon.
hollywood and the video game industry has lost
an amazing actor/voice actor.
r.i.p md
R.I.P MCD, we will remember you.
…as the comedian Lewis Black says, 'the good die young, pricks live forever and idiots always win out….'
Hollywood has lost one of the few true-blue good guys left in the lair. RIP Michael, and thank you.
