Publishers have to be creative and inventive when it comes to pre-order bonuses these days. Multiplayer skins are just a snoozer. Seriously.

So Capcom is trying something interesting: If you pre-order Resident Evil 6 from the publisher's online store , you will receive a totally free Umbrella umbrella.

…no, we didn't stutter. Fans of the franchise know exactly what that means. The sinister corporation that is so often part of virus outbreaks in the world of Resident Evil is called Umbrella, and their logo is – you guessed it – a red and white umbrella. If you haven't been paying attention, RE6 lands on October 2 in the US and features series superstars Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield, along with a newcomer to the RE fold, Jake Muller (son of the now-infamous Albert Wesker). Capcom has high expectations for the title, anticipating that it will become the best-selling game in the publisher's lengthy history.

But if they're going to hit their goal of 7 million copies sold worldwide, you're gonna have to do your part. And the best way to insure that is to pick it up early and grab yourself a cool umbrella.

I'd get this, but I have a problem with umbrellas. As much as I love them, I've lost 6 umbrellas this year, as opposed to a 10 from the previous year. If i lose this one I might as well lose my head.

Errrr… this is just a bad joke, right?

No, seriously, right?

60 bucks and all I'll get for bonus is a lousy umbrella?

Why this pre-order craze when there is in practice *zip* to gain from it? I mean, come on… An umbrella? Or some worthless ingame weapons or outfit? Or more often than not: Nothing special at all…

Why do people bother?!
At best you receive the game in the mail a couple of days earlier… Big effing deal.
And on top of that you always risk receiving a game that you'd not even buy had you read the reviews first – or at least waited for the price drop.
What is there to gain from preordering that I'm missing here?

At least umbrellas are useful and nice ones can cost like $20. Like Ben said, multiplayer skins are dumb. I won't be pre-ordering mainly because I'm not a big RE fan, but an umbrella is much more enticing to me personally than an exclusive set of armor.

First Leon's jacket…..now this. I'll admit, that they're more inventive than exclusive dlc or something, but I still feel that Capcom's trying too hard.

On a side-note: I've been playing through RE 5 again recently….aside from a few hiccups here and there, I think I enjoyed it more now that I knew what I was getting myself into.
