Guaranteed the dude who sent this tip to us is such an 80s fan. …or maybe he just recalls the big Double-D with a certain fondness, which is completely and entirely normal.

As revealed at the game's Facebook page , publisher Majesco will bring Wayforward's amusing, over-the-top Double Dragon Neon to the PlayStation Network on September 11; the price will be $9.99. XBLA users get it a day later.

Yeah, you remember Double Dragon . We all do. The side-scrolling beat-'em-up is just totally classic and this tongue-in-cheek homage should be oodles of throwback fun. Heck, they're even including mixtape power-ups and multiplayer they've affectionately dubbed "bro-op." I'm just wondering if you could get a young'un to play this; those who have never heard of DD would probably laugh upon seeing this, just 'cuz it's so old-school. But who can pass up some awesome 2D bashing action? Is that even possible?

There are just so many reasons to hop onto the PSN/XBLA these days.

I definately want to give this one a shot. I'm a bit leery of it's sort of crappy looking visuals, but I dunno.

Anyhow, does anyone else think Super Double Dragon for SNES was incredible? Not so much for music or production, or anything like that, but the core fighting mechanic was surprisingly robust, moreso than any other brawler I know of. I do think the Streets of Rage games, particularly 1 and 2 had the best look and feel, but gameplay wise, I think Super DOuble Dragon was king of the roost.

I feel the same. The visual leave a lot to be desired. I would have just liked redone or styled hand drawn HD sprites. But meh.

I want them to make Battle Toads HD!!!! That game was impossibly hard and I want to see if I can beat it now that I'm a better gamer and not you know 4 years old.

yeah, Battletoads was good fun. It wasn't really great for martial arts fighting but it made for some highly inventive and creative game play that did well to mix up the action.

Just a thought,
Since I think it helps to foster the feelings of really contributing something to this site, I think this tipster should get credit for the tip.

Just saying

I might have to get this, Double Dragon was the gold standard back in the day especially for co-op.

The greatest invention of all time: the hair-pull kick.

Yah the hair pull kick was great, but I gotta say, the ultra powerful flying knee kick that sent people flying was so much fun! I think it was only in Double Dragon 2 though, but 2 was the best!

double dragon was indeed gold.
my favorite side-scroller, though, was crime fighters 2, aka Vendetta.
now THAT was a bad ass side scroller…
might still buy DD, though…
