The Tales role-playing series is one of the most beloved, enduring franchises around.

The fan base is extraordinarily loyal, so maybe it makes perfect sense to release more high-definition remakes. Series producer Hideo Baba has confirmed that indeed, more high-def overhauls are headed our way in the future.

Giving the fans a chance to revisit the Tales roots, the remakes will not only improve graphics, but they'll also offer a host of various improvements. Said Baba:

"We are planning to re-release old games to other platforms in the future, because the old games have some origin and offer standard features of the Tales series. We want to give some opportunities to current fans to play the old titles."

The interesting part is that he said they will make the graphics "more accessible," which obviously implies that the visuals will require a heavy tweak in order to be appealing to modern gamers. Well, it's probably true. Anyway, don't forget that Tales of Xillia is coming to North America as well, so this is all good news for JRPG followers.

I haven't played any Tales game in the past, but I'm really considering buying Tales of Graces F and Tales of Xillia (more interested on this one though). The gameplay videos I've seen remind me of the traditional JRPGS, something that is sorely lacking this console generation. Yes, I'm way more excited about this one than FF XIII-2 (or XIII-3) which I still do not intend to buy or play until now.

Since they're planning to re-release past Tales games, why not start with Tales of Vesperia? I think that'll make the easiest transition.

i believe they released a ps3 version in japan only. all they need to do is put english subs but i guess they dont want to do the work.

There was a 360 version in English, so the localization files already exist, all they'd have to do is localize the new elements in the PS3 version. not a huge task. But it seems as though there is a great deal of idiocy going on with respect to localizing JRPGs from major publishers.

If they're doing older ones, Tales of Destiny and Tales of Destiny 2 (which was Tales of Eternia for PSP) were both phenominal. I'd love to play those with new graphics, for sure.

Either way, though, the Tales of games are a ton of fun. Haven't played one I didn't like. Not good enough to be my favorite games of all time, or anything, but I don't really have anything bad to say about them.

Agreed. I feel the exact same when it comes to this franchise.

Not interested in anything Namco Bandai has to offer so long as they continue to screw up franchises. At this point they could announce HD remasters of Xenosaga, and I'd have to believe that they'd tear the turn based combat out of the game and replace it with some real time crap. So as far as tales and anything else is concerned, I'm adopting a wait and see approach to anything Namco lays a finger on.

You're missing out big time. The Tales team is talented.

No, I'm not missing out on anything, if they deliver and the reviews say that the game is good and hasn't been screwed up by Namco, I'm interested, but not until the product ships and is reviewed. I don't trust Namco any longer, I need to see the product before I can give a verdict.

Missing out if you skipped Graces due to Namdai's involvement I kinda meant by inference. At least we know Tales is already action based.

I'll play Graces F eventually, I'm just remembering the numerous occasions on which Namco has disappointed this generation of PlayStation fans.

the only thing that bothered me about tales, like all jrpgs, is the stupid half a$$ed english dub music/song. its even worse than ff13-2 music. i mean i was listening to a rock/metal music about chocobos while riding the chocobo. just beaten 13-2 by the way and it really pissed me off to see the actual words "to be continued" at the end. that was just a big punch to the face of series fans. couldnt they just hint on a following game like they did with ffX?

Graces F was a phenomenal return to JRPG goodness on PS3 and Xillia will be day 1 for me.

I think this is a great idea to expand the fanbase and it's good to see the Tales team doing what needs to be done to keep JRPGs alive and fresh into the future.

Square Enix should take notes, if they remade their classics and saw the reaction then they would know where to go in the future.

Did you play Vesperia on the 360? I was debating buying that and borrowing my friend's system. Heard the story kinda fell apart towards the end so I might just wait to Xillia comes to the PS3 next year.

Nope the 360 fail rate scared me away from it early on and I was butthurt that they didn't bring Vesperia to PS3. Didn't make sense based on the PS2 titles.

Do you know if or when Xillia is coming to North America? I held out on Graces because Xillia looks way more interesting to me, plus I heard Graces co op is a little pooched.

i dont mean any disrespect but buying a jrpg for coop just doesnt sound right with me. to me, buying a jrpg or any rpg for that matter means pure single player. however, i dont really see the problem with graces coop. you can have up to 4 people controlling each character seperately in battle. maybe you can only have 1 character on screen during exploration but i dont see that as a bad thing. it is a jrpg after all.

Well, I just remember playing Tales of Symphonia with my friends and its nice having an RPG that I only play when certain friends are over. Used to do that a lot back in the highschool days. Only if it wasn't co op like FFX we would just take turns. I do have games I like to play alone, just the Tales series is one I like to play with friends.

Thanks World last I checked there was no mention of any release in NA. Glad to know its coming.
