What we had heard through the grapevine is now official .
Final Fantasy VII is returning to the PC, as Square Enix has formerly revealed.
It's "coming soon" and it will feature achievements, cloud saves, and a "Character booster" that will let players cheat. Yeah, they can artificially increase their stats and money…I call that cheating, but whatever. By the way, this latter feature might be microtransaction-based, although we're not really sure…all I do know is that I don't recall experience or money to be especially tough to come by in FFVII. Just put a little leveling effort in, and you're good. What, too much for the current twitchy gamers?
Oh, all right, I take it back. Anyway, the FFVII PC re-release will be exclusive to the Square Enix store and it'll be available in the US and Europe in English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Well obviously , this means a remake is coming. I mean, come on. Right? …uh…right?
P.S. "Cloud" saves. …ha.

Ugh, all this time they're wasting that they could be using to remake the damn game on PS3/PS4. smh @ Square Enix, get your s*** straight!
It won't be totally exclusive to the Square/Enix store, as it's been listed in the Steam registry for the last few days. But then again, who has ever bought anything from the S/E store to begin with, let alone know that they even had one?
Awwww, no phyiscal copies? that's pretty fail right there.
I still remember the odd pyramidal box this came in for PC originally.
I'm pretty sure you're confusing it with the original Tomb Raider PC box. That is definitely a triangle box. My PC version of FFVII is a box.
There must have been another box then because I remember that tomb raider one but I remember FFVII too. My town didn't have much in it at the time (though it's huge now) so I walked around K-mart a lot.
The PC version of FF VII came in a pyramid style box when it first released, and had a flip up cover. Later releases were changed over to standard boxes.
Thank you Geo.
I remember seeing those triangle boxes working at EB.
I also remember saying, "…what fool is playing FFVII on the freakin' PC?"
…HA.
Yea, the funky boxes were a Eidos thing back in the day.
PC game marketing back then thought the bigger more shelf wasting space a box could be the better. But the illusion failed every time when picking up the box from the shelf. Lots felt so cheap, hollow, and light weight it made one wonder why the box was so big.
World is right. The triangle box definitely existed for FFVII.
Wonder how it feels to have your super old games always beat the living daylights out of your newest efforts? Poor SE, they know how to milk but since Enix jumped on board they've lost the ability to create.
I can see why they are adding the cheat system, as much as I love the game and put in time I was still never able to beat the underwater Weapon.
::giggle::
I beat it a few times, but it was not easy. It really does require a strategy.
Who would you guys say is tougher; Ruby or Emerald?
Ruby, for me at least.
I beat emerald by breeding a gold chocobo, getting knights of the round summoning, then leveling it until I had another one, then leveling the mime ability. Basically when all was said and done, there were knights being cast by the whole team every time you blinked.
You needed the Underwater Materia to remove the timer from him, first of all. Then you needed to just pummel him mercilessly with a Mastered Knights of the Round. It would help if you had some Mimes and Magic Absorb materias to attach to KotR, but it wasn't absolutely necessary.
Ruby was only a bitch because you had to go one on one and you never knew which one he would leave. You just had to keep resetting until the character you had set to fight him remained. And that character should have the Mystile equipped and…yeah, more KotR.
There are many other ways to beat these things, of course, but these are the easiest. Just the most time-consuming because of all the time you need to spend leveling up the KotR materia.
yeah I had most of what I needed but I don't think I ever found the Mime, I could last about an hour and eventually he would cream me.
Knights of the Round was so damn epic.
1) W-summon + KotR
2) Mimic to conserve on MP and have the others mimic the w-summon KotR.
3) Final Attack + Phoenix to revive
4) Profit!
I would say Ruby weapon is the hardest as you can't mimic yourself and so need to be careful of your MP and use recovery items. With Emerald you can force your way through if you're lucky enough with little to no trouble. Ruby is weaker, but it's hard with only one person!

Both Ruby and Emerald are both easy if you know their weaknesses.
Emerald's attack does 1111 damage per materia equipped. Max your HP, equip only 8 materia per character, and you can pound away and heal after each massive attack. Have Final-Attack-Phoenix for emergency raises. Or, you could do like I did and beat him in 2 minutes by rolling lucky with Cait Sith's lvl 2 Limit Break for an instant win.
Ruby is vunerable to Hades. Enter with two people dead, he sticks his tentacles in the sand. Revive the others with Phoenix and then W-Summon Hades and Knights of the Round. Soon as his stop wears off, Mime it with the next character. Easy win.
(better say something smart)
Yeah, I just cast zombie on it and then cast life on him. Pretty easy, really
(swish)
=p
@Ben
Go in with 2 characters already dead, and Ruby won't dismiss anyone.
Wow, I've beaten ffvii 4 times and never realized their was an underwater materia that removed emerald weapons timer.
That should make it much easier next time around, although nothing like the intensity of watching the timer get down to under a minute and practically begging for him to die.
You know those underwater tubes you walk in towards the Junon reactor? There's an enemy in that pipeline (where you can see the dolphin swimming) that is basically a boat with a skeleton on the front of it that hits you with an oar…
You need to use your Morph materia to morph it into an item when it's health gets down low. The item you get is some sort of guide book. Take that book to a man in Kalm, and he'll trade you for an Underwater materia. Equip that to anyone in your party and it will remove the timer.
yeah I know
The guide didn't tell me to go in with two characters being dead…but that wasn't the only omission in that book. 😉
I just wanted to be a God, that's all. So when I was done, I'd have bunches of Master Materias equipped all over the place, all the characters in my party had their Lv. 4 Limit Breaks, everyone had KotR mastered, etc. The funniest was the Counter and Counter Magic materias; at the end, if anyone attacked Cloud, he'd immediately counter with KotR. If anyone attacked Red XIII, he'd counter with Flash (the upgrade from 4x Cut that is basically instant death), and Cid would counter with Bamamut ZERO.
That was after the WEAPONs were dead, of course. 😉
Yeah, that guide left lots of stuff out… like even easy to find treasure chests (one on Nibel Mountain, I remember well).
@World
I'm sure you knew. I was letting Kraygen know. He said he didn't know there was an underwater materia.

I have never been a fan of cheating. It just takes away from the fun and actual feeling of accomplishment.
But it's great for messing about in a 2nd playthrough.
Sounds awesome, I already own it on ps1 on disc and downloadable version, but I'll probably buy this version too.
However if they were going to add some cheats, what they should have added was the ability to play as any characters through the whole game. Including Sephiroth.
Any details on the screen resolution? If it is more then 480i I might be interested lol
Seeing that trailer just makes me want to play play it all over again… ^-^
THANK GOD!
now can we please for the love of god get over a HD remake?
PLEASE!?
really silly $E is restricting this to their store though.
eh, whatever.

I will buy it for the mods
Don't need this game. Gremio just died in my RPG game by flesh eating spores. Way more epic than Aris going down =p
No physical copy, me no buy.
Just download it and burn the files to a CD
😉
ew!
And with a sharpie make your own label.
FiNAl fAnTasie 7
(Sketch of Cloud goes here)
You could just print off a cd label that's pretty. They have those at any old Staples.
But if you must have a real explanation, as a collector, it's pretty unnecessary for me to buy a digital copy for my PC. I have the original black spine PS1 version. And I got the dlc version to play it on PSP when traveling (which I definitely used!). But for PC… I could just download an emulator or something if I wanted a digital version. There's literally no selling feature to buy it online for PC. Not for me, anyways.
I don't need cloud saves and I would just end up maxing all my stats naturally anyways!

P.s. If I was to make a label, I would make a kick-ass label. I don't do half hearted anything. lol. :p
And it isn't the spelling and capitalization things that are bad, you know… it's the fact you would write 7 instead of VII!!!!!! BLASPHEMY!
Personally I'd title it as this with an added sub-title
Final Fantasy Seven:
The Death of Aeris
Much more impact that way
=p
ha, that would be a good one for Highlander. For him, the game ends at that moment, and he has never played beyond that point. lol
True, but he probably wouldn't get even that far on this one. An FF processed on a x86 processor has got to be a cardinal sin by him =p
Squeenix won't even try an HD remake, but they would be glad to throw a new digital copy out there to soak up some money. Stay Classy Squeenix
I'd rather play this on my Vita.
Ben finally realized it. "Well obviously, this means a remake is coming. I mean, come on. Right? …uh…right?" Its coming….
PS4 launch title
…" I just know it."
eLLeJuss, that's like your tag line. How could you have forgotten it?!
