You know about the Greatest Hits line in the PlayStation universe, but did you know there's another special category on the horizon?

At least it seems that way. According to Examiner.com citing Amazon France, it seems Sony is starting up an Essential Collection of PlayStation 3 titles. We're not sure how this branding is different from the Greatest Hit assignation, but maybe we'll find out soon.

Here are 15 games that are already part of the Essential Collection according to the online retailer:

All those Move games – a few of which are just mediocre – makes us wonder what this collection is all about. There's also the curious omission of arguably the single best PS3 franchise, Uncharted . Still, good deals are good deals, and we're wondering if Sony plans to launch this new brand worldwide. Maybe for the holidays…?

OT for a sec….
I just had a harrowing 3 & 1/2 days.

Last Friday in the middle of the night, we had a hurricane-force straight-line wind thunderstorm instantly appear & tore down thousands of power lines & trees, many that toppled onto homes & cars.
I was up at the time getting ready to set up the connectivity between my PSP's AC:Bloodlines & my PS3's AC 2 when all of the sudden I heard this mighty roar of a freight train & then watched out my slider as the wind ripped a huge 100+ year old tree apart about 35 feet from my apartment. It just snapped off heavy branches like they were matchsticks & sucked them right up into the sky.
Then all electrical power in my town went out, along with numerous other towns too at about 2:30 AM(thank goodness I hadn't powered-up my PSP & PS3 yet).

So here I've been, stuck in this sweltering heat wave for the last 3 days with no power(not even to call out from my cordless phone). And to top it off, all I could think about was that one of my neighbors might just be dumb enough to leave a candle on in the wrong place & burn all 16 apartment units down to the ground.

But I'm happy to report that our electric company brought in over 400 crews from 16 other states & I finally got my power restored late last night. And although many trees are still blocking major roads, our town's slowly trying to get back to normal. BTW, everyone had to throw their refrigerator's contents out due to spoilage(my buddy had just bought $300 worth of steaks, plus all the trimmings for a upcoming christening party, bummer).

The worst part was that 3 people died in the area, and 2 of them were kids, Scouts who were camping when a tree toppled right on top of their tent.

I heard that the fast moving storm originated in North Carolina & raced up the coast starting at 60 miles an hour and whipping itself up to hurricane force straight-line winds as it got here. So far 27 people are known dead across the states, so thank God, we really were lucky that as ferociously as this storm hit us here(and especially at 2:30AM while most people were already asleep & unaware of it's sudden impact), there wasn't 100's of fatalities in our own area alone.

Anyways back to the thread,

Sony does have a Essentials icon on the PSN store, so I'm assuming it has something to do with that(but I'll have to go on the PSN to check it out to really be sure).

BTW, I've been through both Hurricanes & Tornado's, these "straight-line wind" storms are the scariest by far, just by their very nature of being so instantaneous without any chance of warnings at all.

Glad you're okay too Biker, we need you around here as the collection master. My power went out yesterday in the middle of Silent Hill 2 HD, so I went to power up my PSP and the battery was dead. And I thought I was in a bad way.

Wow, that's one heck of a frightening experience, Biker! Glad to hear that you are safe. So sad about the lost lives and all the other damages the sudden storm caused. Stay safe, good sir!

Thanks guys!
I'm just glad I was able to get through it with no damages to me, my apt, truck, or Harley(except for about $120 worth of food & condiments from 3 days of a fridge without power).

Maybe it's just what France calls the Greatest Hits like the UK's Platinum Hits.
