GameStop PS3 Summer Bundle Offers $75 Worth Of Free Stuff

If you're an avid gamer, there's basically no chance that you don't own a PlayStation 3.

…right?

Okay, maybe life got in the way. Maybe you've waited too damn long and you know it. Maybe you're ready to have some fun this summer, and you need Sony's console to do it.

Enter the PS3 Summer Bundle , which is probably the best package deal you'll see for the PS3 until the holidays. For only $249.99 – the standard cost of the system by itself – you'll receive a 160GB console, Gran Turismo 5 XL , The Sly Cooper Collection , and a free month of PlayStation Plus. That's over $75 worth of extra goodies entirely for free, so you should probably take advantage. Even if you've already got the PS3, maybe you can get some Christmas shopping done really early.

What they need next is a bundle that includes the best-rated games in the PS3 universe, so like all the Uncharted titles, Heavy Rain , Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots , God of War III , etc. What human could pass that up? Nobody I know.

I went into a gamestop the other day and contemplated pre-ording DOA5 there. But as I was there they were badgering a couple as to why they need the replacement plan on the used PS2 they wanted to buy. The sales guy went as far to say that the PS2 came out in 2000 so you're buying a 12 YEAR OLD system. This thing will probably break. All the while someone calls in on their phone and then they spill their 10 second rant on used games and pre-orders. Then as I was leaving the associate started pressuring for warranties on the used game discs. It's also the only store I know who "garuntees their products to work." Has anyone outside of say an MS store ever worried about such a thing? Gamestop has to spend promo money on the peace of mind of knowing you're buying a product that is garunteed to work?

Anyway, I left the store with that familiar hounded and ravaged shopper experience Gamestop is known for. DOn't even get me started on their efforts to sell you on their Power Up rewards card.

I've only met one person that works at GameStop that I didn't hate with a passion. I remember the times I'd go into the store while in College and have to put up with the layers of bullcrap they try to force down on anyone that even hints at making a purchase. The only reason I was a customer for several years was because I abused their incompetence by buying and returning/exchanging used games every week. It took them over a year to catch on.

haha … to catch on and use that as a sales pitch for their Power Up Rewards card. Can you believe they do that?

employee: Look, you can buy any used game and then return it. yes, like a rental. so this way, with the power up rewards card you get $5 off a new release title, plus a play before you own incentive to go with that!

customer: but don't you realize you're cannibalizing the health of this very industry that gives you guys life to begin with by advocating this practice? Short term gain for a long term loss? This will affect you guys too, in the long run.

employee: … uuuh can't understand … okay, so the Power Up rewards card is a great deal! Want it? hmm? hmmmmmm?

Although I hate their higher corporate thugs running the company, I have no problems with my 5 local GS/EB stores employees, and they all know me enough to not try & work their warranty or pre-order spiels on me.

Also, they know I'm a gaming collector so they give me free game swag even if I'm not buying that particular game(love all the free bobble-heads, lanyards, keychains, posters & games T-shirts such as C:LOS, etc, etc).

As for having their highest tiered "PowerUp Pro" rewards card, I think it's worth it because for only $15 annually, I get a years subscrition of "Game Informer" magazine, 10% off all used purchases(except consoles & hand-held systems), extra sales, discounts & promotions, and up to 20% points on my rewards card every time I buy.
I can also choose from a catalog of stuff, case, various $$$-off coupons for additional gaming products.

But in my case I only use my rewards to get the $$$ off coupons, for example…..
I used a $50-off rewards coupon when I bought their 320 GB PS3 Sports Champion Move bundle that was already on sale that week, for $299.99(regularly $349.99 then. So I only wound up paying $250.
So I make their rewards card work for me

Anyways, Just wanted to let everyone know that Gamestop also has another deal this weekend too……

Their 3 day "Buy 2, get 1 Free" deal is going on this weekend on all "used" games, and if your a PowerUp or PowwerUp Pro Rewards card holder, you can even buy 1 day earlier than the other non-cardholding public.
