Dragon's Dogma was greater than the sum of its parts and in many ways, absolute catnip for role-playing fans who desired a blend of fun and in-depth gameplay elements.
The good news is that although the game will never boast Skyrim numbers, Capcom has announced that worldwide shipments for the well-received title have passed the one million mark.
There are several positive numbers for the publisher: It's the 55th title in the company's history to top the one million shipped mark, and first-week sales for the PlayStation 3 version hit 300,000. It was the highest-selling game in Japan in the month of May, despite the fact that it wasn't even available for the entire month. Lastly, it's clear that with this success, Capcom intends to turn Dragon's Dogma into a "major franchise." Well, they could certainly use another significant RPG franchise outside of the immensely popular Monster Hunter .
If you haven't played Dragon's Dogma yet and you're heavy into RPGs, we strongly recommend it. Even if you're only lukewarm into RPGs, some of the more unique factors of the game might be appealing.
I don't regret getting rid of it but there's a great foundation for a sequel. Maybe someday I'll replace it but I'm more interested to see if they make improvements on Dogma 2. Not ready to give up on the idea of the franchise just yet.
Excellent! Great game even though Im not finished its good to know there will be more Dogma.
I'm currently playing this along with Vanquish and I really enjoy it. The combat is really fun.
See Capcom? New IPs are a good idea sometimes 🙂
See Kingdoms of Amular can release this year to 1.5million copies sold and the company collapses and burns 1000 deaths. Dragon's Dogma can ship just 1 million copies and it's all happy sequel time.
Yup, it sure puts that whole Amalur case into perspective.
And Heavenly Sword at 2 million for a system nobody owned. NT didn't die but they did run away.
just goes to show how irresponsible they were with their money!
And I am pretty sure Dragon's Dogma did not cost near as much to produce XD. But it's probably because they were working on a lot of projects at the same time.

YAY! I've been having so much fun with this game. The story may not be really there and it isn't a technical marvel but the combat and rpg vocation progression is sublime. It's one of the few games where exploration is frightening yet I NEED to know what's over there. And then I get ambushed :p. The inclusion of epic vicious battles against golems, chimeras, dragons, griffins, Cyclopses (to name a few) is a great bonus.
Not for everybody but a solid rpg / pretty good for their first edition too.
There's so much potential in this game that just didn't quite make it. I look forward to seeing how they push this further.
pretty depressing how crap like this will turn into the next milked COD series, and unique and rare experiences, experiences that are actually half decent, never see a sequel!
depressing how anti innovation and uniqueness this industry has become!
mmm it seems you see it like they will release one yearly XD. From my point of view, they saw that people had a good interest in the game so they will improve upon this formula and deliver an even better experience in maybe 2 years from now no?
Also this game is not crap. Maybe you don't like it but it is a pretty good effort.

where did i say there going to do yearly releases?
it would be nigh on impossible to release a game like dragons dogma yearly!
what i was saying is its frustrating how games we have a bazillion on, IE action adventure games, get milked to kingdom come, where rare unique titles that deserve sequels get left in the dust!
thought that was pretty obvious………
Great news , just hope they ll upgrade the graphics a bit but keep the great monster animation life likeness .
After my 1st play through I have put it down for a bit. I can't wait to come back on my 2nd play through to find out all the cool new things my pawn learned and items/rift crystals she'll give me.
Btw, Dragon's Dogma is one of those games you want to day one buy with fast shipping. You miss out on some of the fun if you don't.
Very happy this will become a established franchise. Hopefully next time around capcom will drop a special, limited, or collector's edition our way (USA). There is still hope for amalur if someone decides to buy the rights from Rhode Island.
