BioWare and EA responded to the well-documented fan backlash concerning the ending(s) of Mass Effect 3 .
This response consisted of the Extended Cut announcement, which sought to calm the fan freak-out…although it remains to be seen if the franchise followers will be satisfied with the effort.
Well, we won't have much longer to wait. Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut has been confirmed for a June 26 launch; it will be available for all three versions – PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC – of the critically acclaimed title. This content will feature more cut-scenes and more content, which is designed to enhance the somewhat lacking epilogue. According to the developer's official website :
"The Extended Cut expands on the endings of Mass Effect 3 through additional scenes and epilogue sequences. It provides more of the answers and closure that players have been asking for. It gives a sense of what the future holds as a result of the decisions made throughout the series. And it shows greater detail in the successes or failures based on how players achieved their endings."
In our estimation, BioWare deserved more of a vacation than they got. But maybe the team can finally relax now .
