There's a reason a fair portion of Sony's E3 2012 press conference was dedicated to the innovative Wonderbook.
The company is really banking on the product to be big for "parents and young children" and in fact, they're saying it's the "biggest" PS3 launch of the holiday season.
First off, Amazon told MCV that Wonderbook is "terrific," and they expect good things. Secondly, SCE UK boss Fergal Gara said the virtual book will arrive with multiple SKUs for current PlayStation Move owners, future Move owners, and even those who don't own a PS3. Said Gara:
"[Wonderbook] is the biggest one we’re going after this Christmas. There’s still a lot to do and a lot of communicating to consumers still to do. We will need to work with retail where appropriate.
If consumers understand what we are offering them, then it should fly. It is unlike anything I have ever seen before. The feedback we have had this week is that this is special, this is unique, this is pushing boundaries. That is what you want to be doing in a sector like this."
Graham Chambers, head of buying for games at Amazon, added that it's "good to see the PS3 offering something new this far into the lifecycle," and said for the right consumers (parents and kids), it should have "huge appeal." Finally, Chambers said Wonderbook could fly in a wide range of retailers; even places like supermarkets and traditional book sellers.
For the hardcore older gamers, it's probably not their thing. But for the young'uns…could be great.
