Hey, E3 is good for everyone!

The ESA (Entertainment Software Association) has revealed the stats for this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, and a whole lot of people attended the event. The local economy enjoyed a boost, too.

Over 45,700 people showed up at E3 2012, and the event managed to generate $40 million for host city Los Angeles. However, there have been rumors that E3 might leave LA next year; earlier reports have stated that the ESA is considering a logistical shift if planned construction at the LA Convention Center gets in the way. For the record, most all E3s have taken place at that one location. Only twice has it been elsewhere.

The show didn't provide gamers with the any new next-generation hardware, as Sony and Microsoft were mute on that subject, but at least the games impressed. We especially loved the Beyond: Two Souls unveiling, that bad-ass God of War: Ascension and The Last Of Us gameplay, as well as that pretty damn amazing Watch Dogs from Ubisoft.

What were your favorite moments?

"The show didn't provide gamers with the any new next-generation hardware"

I must have missed something. Did Nintendo not attend e3 this year to show off the Wii U? Lol

In all seriousness, Assassin's Creed 3 was my highlight, along with The Last of Us. Wasn't overly impressed with GOW Ascension, and I have to see more of Beyond: Two Souls to make a good judgement.

Not to troll but anyone else think Nintendo has their own little "next/current generation". Here we are 2 consoles in a row that will end up having the least amount of power in terms of hardware. I know I know, we haven't seen the PS4 or next 360 but a little common sense tells you they will outperform the Wii U specs wise.

yes they did, but if rumours are correct its about toe to toe with current systems so its hardly "next gen"!

Quiz: What do all these E3 2012 showcased titles have in common?

-Assassin’s Creed III (both main and Vita title)
-Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist
-Watchdogs
-Far Cry 3
-FIFA Soccer 13
-Little Big Planet Karting
-Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth
-NHL 13
-Batman Arkham City: Armoured Edition
-Sound Shapes
-The Amazing Spider-Man Game (Beenox)
-Cartoon Universe
-That Star Trek game (unconfirmed by me, though, so unsure about this one)

Answer: They are all made in Canada.

If not in LA, they might as well just save all the active devs travel time and host it in Canada. Montreal, Toronto, or Vancouver would all be acceptable. Even Naughty Dog has a studio in Vancouver. (It is only handling the audio for Last of Us, apparently, so I didn't include it in the list)

You guys are all invited. I'll make the coffee and provide the brew!

LOL…I did not know that! I'm sure it has to do with taxes and such. Just another way the country I live in is crumbling to the ground.

I'm not sure about most of them, but Ubisoft has had a studio in Montreal since 1996. They've done the entire AC series.

I think the bigger thing is that a recent strategy of many of our municipalities has been to bring a development studio into town. Even my smaller city of London has Viking Games. (just a small studio)

Our government seems to think there's value in establishing a video game industry in Canada. So I think you are right about the taxes, etc.

Of course, we are crazy people over here! First anti-prohibition, then public health care, then a gun registry, then de-criminalized marijuana, then national legal same-sex marriage, and now we're pro-video game industry! According to what I've read in Texas news, our society should be falling apart any day now…

LOL The few times I've been to Canada I've enjoyed myself. It's a shame that the States can be almost snobbish when it comes to adapting to world policies. That's some pretty cool info regarding game companies in your country.

Btw you toured the States last year, did you manage to do anything interesting?

We didn't get to do too much. We were there for almost two weeks, but the reason we went was for a family wedding. So we spent most of our time helping prepare, going to bachelor/bachelorette party, golfing, etc. Didn't get to do anything touristy. The wedding was in Iowa way over near Sioux City or something. We drove through Michigan, then past Chicago (stayed in Joliet on the way home), stayed in Davenport on the way there (some casino/hotel next to the river)… but didn't really stop anywhere other than to eat. I would have rather gone straight without stopping for sleep, but we took 2 vehicles between my wife and I, her parents, and her grandparents. Since the grand-folks were 82 and 84, we stopped -really- regularly for their sake.

My wife has a lot of American relatives, so I'm sure we'll be back to actually spend time seeing different things. I haven't gone with her to see her aunt and uncle in Arizona yet, and I'd love to see the canyon. I didn't go with her last time 'cause of stupid work. :p

Ah well, all in good time. 🙂 Went to Boston for a wedding a couple years ago in October, which was really nice too.

@World
My wife's cousin lives in Sioux City area now, which is a very republican area, I guess. At his work, he has an obama doll made out of paper he props up on his desk to bug his co-workers.

That's crazy Underdog. I grew up 20mins from Joliet and I currently live in Davenport! You stayed at The Isles Capri which is a few blocks from my house.

It's not a minor scheduled maintenance, it's a whole LA Convention center re-do with addition space also being constructed.

So there will be an army of construction worker ants crawling all over the building with supplies, scaffolding, debris, & dumpsters everywhere.
