Details remain sparse but all you need to know is this: The zombie hunting will continue.

Dead Island did well on the sales charts and garnered quite the loyal following, so most assumed publisher Deep Silver would deliver a follow-up effort. Rumors have persisted but it wasn't until today that we got the official news.

Deep Silver has indeed announced a "new entry" in the Dead Island franchise; it's currently in development at Techland and will be delivered for "consoles and PC." It will be called Dead Island Riptide but beyond this, we're a little hazy on the details; estimated release date and other information will be coming at a later time. For now, feel free to check out the game's official site ; it doesn't have any new info for Riptide but we're sure it will at some point…

Dead Island was a rambunctious, kill-'em-all type game with lots of replay potential, and it was tons o' fun for multiple players. Here's hoping Techland takes the next step, cleans up the production a little, and gives us a AAA sequel worthy of our cash and time.

It can't come soon enough as far as I'm concerned. Their first effort was great fun, has the best coop, but leaves tons of room for improvement.

Very excited to hear it. Huge fan of Dead Island so I'm hoping the sequel surpasses.

Loved the first one, maybe this time they could have a better variety of quests and not make everything a fetch quest. The first one was nothing but fetch quests

oh hell yes!
all i request is 2 things.
for once can we have more than 1 mission repeated 3000 times?
got so frustrating every single god dam mission being a fetch quest!
drove me INSANE!
second please ditch the weapon breaking system!
its so stupid!
the WHOLE point of this game is having fun ripping zombies to threads!
but you cant because your constantly worried about your favourite weapon breaking!
so i constantly found myself kicking enemies being bored as bat sh*t, instead of using my knife ripping zombies apart and having fun!
