Ninja Gaiden is a highly revered and respected franchise. It's just too bad that the most recent installment didn't live up to expectations .
We're hoping the same thing doesn't happen with Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance , even if the situation is a little different. The newest effort from Platinum Games (and Kojima Productions, partially) is very different from past entries with "Metal Gear" in the title, in that it's straight-up action and no stealth.
And as such, it's being compared with games like…well, NGIII. And Revengeance producer Atsushi Inaba is downright insulted. In a set of recent Tweets , Inaba asked gamers not to compare a "sh***y game" like NGIII with his baby:
"It seems the game play portions of the [Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance] trailer are quite popular. The ability to slice everything is a refreshing feature, and the playable cutscenes are well recieved too. People have been comparing it to Ninja Gaiden, but at least Ninja Gaiden 3 was a sh***y game that cannot be helped. I don’t want it to be compared to that."
As one might expect, a whole lot of people had replies to that, but Inaba didn't back down. He just said "I'm free to say my real opinions" and "I can be as frank as I want," which is perfectly viable. In our estimation, NGIII really was mediocre and we can't imagine any developer wanting their game to turn out that way. Right?
