What fresh wackiness is this ?

Thanks to a tip, we've noticed a huge rumor at Cinema Blend : It seems Square Enix has released early pre-E3 footage of Final Fantasy Versus XIII , and the leaked video confirms it is coming to the PlayStation 3 and Wii U (no Xbox 360 mentioned), and it is now called – wait for it – Final Fantasy XV .

The video recently arrived on German site Zocking Extreme (no, we have no affiliation with them), and you can view it below and come to your own conclusion. Unfortunately, nobody has any idea about the actual source, so…

Admittedly, this does seem surprisingly authentic, although we have no idea where this is taking place, or why it's being shown to people who don't appear to be journalists. Furthermore, the "pre-E3" part is a little confusing, as Square Enix's confirmed E3 lineup doesn't include Versus XIII or Final Fantasy XV .

Well, talk among yourselves.

While a FFXV would definitely sell better than anything with XIII on its label, I've grown accustomed to calling it Versus, and probably wouldn't be able to stop. Also WiiU port makes sense, since it'll be on par with PS3 in power (apparently). Honestly at this point, any news on Versus is good news.

Interesting. Wonder if it being released on the WiiU is what is keeping it so hush hush. Yet another console slowing things down… Oh well. We will see what happens at E3. I have a feeling this will be one of the biggest shows in.a long time.

The wway I see it Sony and Nintendo have given more to the gaming industry than Microsoft has ever have. Its strange but I don't feel like this game being on the Wii U is going to hold the PS3 back.

Nintendo has more experience in this industry than Sony and let not forgot that if history had taken a different turn , Nintendo and Sony might have been a combined entity in the gaming industry.

Ninty has more capital than Sony and Microsoft combined so they can very easily invest in top notch tech if they so desire. If Ninty's new console has tech on par with the Ps3 than these two conglomerates may in fact bring back what was missing from our current gen to the our next gen.

I have no idea where you are getting the idea tiny Nintendo has more capital than Microsoft. Microsoft posted a profit of 5.1 Billion during their last fiscal quarter while Nintendo posted its first annual loss in a decade. Sony posted a record loss of 6.4 Billion during their last fiscal quarter and they have been hemmoraging money for 4 straight years thanks to their sinking HDTV and computer divisions.

Microsoft has been sitting on huge cash reserves for years thanks to the revenue from Windows and their bussiness division that provides server tools. Surprisingly MS makes very little from their entertainmemt division with products like the Xbox 360. Bing and the Windows phone don't make them a lot of money either. The bulk of Microsoft's revenue still comes from Windows. They almost have a monopoly when it comes to computer operating sysems that guarantees MS an insane amount of revenue.

Investors sometimes joke MS doesn't even need our money when it comes to buying stock because they have an ideal set up when it comes to the revenue from their computer operating systems. MS has more capital than Sony and Nintendo combined. They haven't been shy about using their cash reserves to buy themselves marketeshare either. That 500 mllion Kinect marketing campign comes to mind. It's a lot of money to us but only pocket change for a company as huge as MS.

Sometimes when you're as big of a company as MS or Activision, there's no need I guess. >_>

Apple is the only big, profitable corp that seems to innovate, or at least try to. Other companies like Sony and Samsung continue to innovate as well, but unfortunately their profits aren't that great. Basically, I'm saying that it's unfortunate that the some of the biggest companies don't work as hard as some of the smaller companies, in terms of revenue.

In the gaming industry, Nintendo does have more capitol and worth, Excelsior. And Microsoft has the least.

You are correct, though, about the overall company of Microsoft. PC and Windows sales have been subsidizing their gaming division all generation. With steep advertising and exclusivity deals, the gaming division itself technically spends more than it makes in MS's attempt to win more of the gaming monopoly.

Since Nintendo is only really in gaming, it's not really fair to pretend they are competing against the PC division of Microsoft or any other division of Sony.

If we look strictly at gaming, Microsoft has lost the most (not in it's hardware/software itself, but in the bizarre amounts of money they blow on advertising that leaves the gaming division in the red, subsidized by shares in the PC realm), while Sony and Nintendo (this past quarter excepted for Nintendo) continually post in the green. In fact, as of late, Sony's gaming division is the only real bright spot for Sony.

Anyways, it is interesting that completely polarizing arguments can be made depending on whether you decide to focus on the gaming division or all divisions of each company combined. Personally, I wouldn't compare the overall companies as the only thing all three have in common is gaming. I guess Sony does a little bit of computer hardware, but not not really at the same scale as MS.

Excelsior,

Profits do not mean a company is rolling in the green, its all about cashflows. Its the reason why companies make huge losses for years but are still in the game.

I doublechecked, I am 100% sure MS's net worth in terms of stockholder equity is way more than Nintendo's and Sony's. MS is valued at 219 billion while Sony is valued at 35,6 billion in terms of stock holder equity. source wikipedia. Nintendo is even smaller. Sony sits 74th on the list of Fortune 500 companies while MS has been in the top 10 for long time. I can't say precisely where MS ranks because I have seen two different numbers. I am not too bothered by that. Only bothered by the statement that Nintendo sits on more cash reserves or capital. They do not technically unless they have some secret reserve that's not on the books.

I used Wiki to check. They have a slot for the estimated cash reserves of these companies. I looked at Sony's and Nintendo's and thought that's pretty good but then I checked MS's…litterally dumfounded at the amount of cash they have on hand. Now I know where the term "MS slush fund" comes from. They have accumulated a huge cash reserve over the years.

Yes, the majority of it is from their PC bussiness. There are very few companies that have more net worth than Microsoft. Especially in the tech sector. I believe Apple might but no way that either Sony or Nintendo does.

@kaerneli III

Your point is very valid but eventually companies do have to post a profit or investors get spooked. When a company's stock price drops it costs more for them to borrow money making it harder on them to raise capital if they have to. In the dot.com years a lot of companies flamed out because they could no longer borrow money. Granted a lot of those companies were overvalued in the first place. Definitely fascinating stuff. Watching companies with what was thought good net worth and revenue steams flame out once investors lost faith. Anyways, I'm way off topic here which is something I need to watch. Sometimes I can't help myself.

oh yeah, anout FF that looks very authentic to me. Looks like the real deal.

No one is arguing the overall net worth of the companies, Excelsior. They should be accurate even in the best of times. Microsoft does best at it's PC and Windows sales. Any idea how much companies pay every year for professional versions of Windows? An incredible amount. There' not really any competition in the OS department when it comes to companies seeking consistency across the board. Apple and other OS' compete in the home market, but not really in the professional one.

Neither Sony nor Nintendo are in that business to begin with. Sony focuses on technology and home entertainment, while Nintendo is almost exclusively gaming. Even in the best of times, Microsoft had better be on top.

No one is arguing that point…

The point to argue is when it comes down to the gaming divisions. In that arena, MS posts red ink every quarter of every year mostly because of it's advertising cost. Mind you, it sometimes doesn't appear red because advertising is subsidized by other department's success, but when their 360 advertising line is more than the -GROSS- profits of their entire gaming line, you know their strategy is the same as it has been for their company for 2 decades… to take another monopoly! Gaming was probably too established already, though, for them to truly accomplish that.

In the gaming divisions, Nintendo is on top this generation followed by Sony when it comes to profitability. Sony finally became profitable this generation when excluding PS2 and PSP sales in 2010. Nintendo has been profitable the entire generation until this last quarter. XBOX hasn't seen green in gaming once this generation. Again, that is due not to a lack of success, but to an enormous advertising line.

I don't think Microsoft has ever been in the green on black (or whatever) in the gaming division have they? That's my understanding.

I understand now. In the gaming division. Got it. I would argue you have to take the companies as a whole…all their divisions when trying to establish net worth. Microsoft's ability to pull money from one divison to subsidize another is a legitamte bussiness tactic that's done all the time. They are just in a unique position because their stranglehold on the PC bussiness.

What I really disagree with is Nintendo has more capital to invest in "top notch" technolgy. Nintendo went off and created their own new market in part because the did not think they could survive competing directly with Sony and MS when it comes to technology. Brilliant move on Nintendo'd part by the way. They were written off for dead this generation by the experts at the start of this gen.

Well, it looks like we all understand each other now. My point was MS has more capital than Nintendo or even Sony in terms stock equity. I know it's not coming from the gaming division which is now posting a profit over at MS(tiny profit compared to their pc division). I'm not all that concerned about where that capital comes from a cold bussiness point of view. At the end of the day it's still Microsofts capital they can tap anyway they see fit no matter what division it comes from.

Agreed on MS almost having a monopoly on operating systems. No doubt about that. I worried a lot when I saw them target the gaming sector. When they launched the Xbox I sighed in relief after it really did not have a direct impact on Sony's marketshare(in fact Sony gained marketshare during the original Xbox years). Times change and maybe I underestimated them. Plus, I forgot just how fickle gamers can be. They will bail on any platform after a serious mistep.

Enjoyed the discussion Underdog.

The anniversary logo has me thinking. 25 years, and they were founded in 1987 right? or at least thats what it says top right corner. So that would mean 2012, which to me would seem that they are going to be coming out with this holiday time this year. Just my take on it but finally some news on it.

Seems authentic, though time will tell. After all this waiting (what has it been now, 5 years?) it has a lot of expectations to live up to. Porting it over to Wii U would account for the delay, I suppose.

Again, I'm not as big into RPGs as a lot of people here, but this game always looked more interesting to me than FFXIII. I hope it can at least match it in quality, if not surpass it.

The Wii U will have problems pushing 720P LOL.

But you can even think about this: The original Xbox is more powerful than the Wii LOL. Older beat newer.

Looks like its some collage classroom, not very full classroom by the sound of it.
No new footage, and that footage is from a older trailer.
The Logo looked very cheap in the way it came together at the end.
This can't be a E3 leak as They are not showing anything at E3 for versus.

Eveything about this just sounds fake to me.

Well, the video seems to start towards the end, so perhaps there were new footage in the earlier parts, which weren't recorded.

It may look like a college room, but it really can be any other room as well.

I don't see how the logo appearing is a big indication of it being fake.

I'm not saying this is "for real" or anything, but those reasons aren't very good imo for us to come to a conclusion that it's fake. Regardless, I have no faith from this random source anyway.

Wow.
I can't imagine where this would have been shown, but I think it really looks quite legitimate. But it is odd that the website is German, the presenters speak English, and the game video is in Japanese (it even has the CERO [Japanese ESRB, basically] logo). So there's definitely some weird language-mix-up thing going on.

But I want this to be true–especially since he said it's coming in 2012. It also had the 25th Anniversary logo mentioning 1987 as the first year. So yeah, that sounds like it's going to be released this year.

It could happen, right? Why would they put it on their released E3 agenda and ruin the awesome surprise for everyone? I can now see why they would have been keeping it secret so long, too; they gave it its own number and added a platform.

I sincerely hope this is true.

I really don't care about a ps3 exclusive or not from Square Enix anymore.

I just want a good final fantasy game that will make most people happy.

I want people to love final fantasy again.

I don't need third party exclusives anymore. Sony has given us so many first party exclusives that I think ps3 gamers can move on from petty things like losing DMC4, FFXIII, etc.

Turned out those games weren't much to cry about.

Where's the uproar about the Wii-U port? Admit it, if this was coming to the 360, we'd all be up in arms, but we accept Nintendo 🙂

Renaming it XV could be a good move, but I feel then that it is a lot of time, effort and teasing wasted. I hope that this winds up being a surprise entry at E3, and we finally get to see gameplay and perhaps even an estimate release date, whether it is going multiplatform or not.

Not sure if the 25th Anniversary bit makes sense though, considering that it very likely WON'T be releasing this calendar year. Unless S-E is pulling a swift one on us.

Well I hate on Square for doing this. Wether to MS or Ninty. They broke their promise again for the… (stopped counting how many times they lied to their fans XD).

Because of that the game will be even more delayed or *has been* even more delayed.

But concerning the *love* for ninty… I already lost most of my respect for them with the Wii generation lol. I know Nintendo brought alot to gaming in general but they spat in all the gamers faces when they went for the *Wii*. They did release a few good first party games… So in more than 4 years of owning the Wii I have a good total of like… 9 games XD XD.

And this is Nintendo saying "sorry we learned our lesson". This game would port perfectly to Wii U without any problems. It is using discs with the same amount of storage as Blu-Ray and has the best looking version of Aliens. Its most probably capable of running this.

You know its very likely "Nintendo spat in gamers faces" on purpose because they lost market share on gamecube and needed to get back the hardcore gamers that jumped ship. They have been here the longest and could have tricked the competition into attacking the casuals (something which Microsoft has clearly fallen for). See this for what I mean:

http://www.dorkly.com/article/17359/the-greatest-prank-nintendo-ever-pulled

Nintendo are now saying "we are sorry" but tbh I wouldn't be surprised if they planned this out.

The only thing that confuses me from this "Leak" is the fact that's there's no new footage :/
Granted, there could've been new footage from the part of the video that wasn't shown, but I don't understand why they'd cut that off and show remnants of a trailer that's been out for ages.
