Two Castlevania Titles Outed, One Is Lords Of Shadow 2

Most action fans want it, and they're gonna get it.

As per the latest issue of Nintendo Power and as spotted by Nintendo Everything , developer Mercury Steam is currently working on two Castlevania projects. One is Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate and the other is the hotly anticipated Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 .

Mercury Steam producer David Cox says Mirror of Fate includes "a climax that will set up the events of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 , so we have to assume the former comes before the latter. Targeted platforms weren't mentioned, but you can bet the sequel in question is coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and it might be made for the Wii U as well. As for when, we have no idea, but we might learn more at E3 next week.

The first Lords of Shadow met with decent critical acclaim and really won over a lot of gamers. We had a few minor issues with it, but it was still a solid action experience. …even if we maintain no 3D Castlevania will ever beat Symphony of the Night .

it was one beautiful game that featured a deep figthing system that I grew to master and love. The game took you across expansive vistas that had a lot of beauty to them, I always prefferred Lords of Shadow over God 3. God of War 3 had a lot of small dark rooms and there was so much backtracking around that stubid hub. No sense of wonder like you got in LOS or even GOW2. Somtimes I would just pause to admire the scenery in LOS.

Spolier warning:

LOS had an epic ending that kind of flips the series on itself. It would seem our hero has a "condidtion" when he dives into the traffic of NY city. Great plot twist. I sure the hell didn't see that coming after the final battle with Satan. I can't say enough good things about LOS. I really liked the combat system that was surprisingly deep when compared to a game like GOW 3. Boss battles were awesome too, One that would better fit a Shadow of Collosus game.

Mercury Steam did a great job. The gameplay is tight and tough to master but once you do have it mastered it is a great deal of fun dealing out the correct deadly attack. There is a level of strategy and timing involved that I enjoyed very much. It's a really long game too so it has a lot of value gameplay whise. I think my first playthrough was 20+ hrs.

LOS is underrated. It's every bit as good as GOW3 plus it has superior locations and deeper gameplay. The story and epic ending that creates a real Holly SH!T moment are great elelments in the game's favor. Blows GOW3's whimpy/headscratcher of an ending out the water. It's just a more ambitous game than a great deal of games out there. Very underrated game.So again. Congrats to Mercury Steam and Mr. Kojima.

@Excelsior
First of all I have never played GoW3, half way through 2 for the longest time. I have to get back to it soon. 2nd, loved, LOVED LoS!! I agree with everything you say about LoS. A totally wonderful gem that I will be going through again at some point. I would like to get the platinum as well. I know a lot of gamers were upset about the fact it wasn't a traditional Castlevania game. But that is what made it so great! It was different and really pulled me in. I am trilled that they are releasing LoS 2! D1P for sure.

THanks for the mini-review there Excelsior. You should submit a complete review for the content. ANd like any good review, be sure to do many comparisons between LoS and GOW. THat's how the pro's do it 😉

seriously, though, I sometimes I wonder if people would enjoy games more if they didn't give any heed to what was the better shared genre game when playing good games. Like, I've been enjoying The Revenge of Shinobi a lot, and it basically sucks by way of modern gaming standards, but to just tune that notion out and enjoy it with complete disregard to how it compares to another modern like-genre title, seems to me makes all of the difference. Sure it has a different way of double jumping. Sure it's hard and kills you for fun,But despite it's oddness, my enjoyment factor is way high.
Basically, I think, psychologically, we can dictate our own level of enjoyment on pretty much any given title, given that it isn't broken, to any degree we'd like. So I think if we engage a game just to be entertained we'd do well to just enjoy it and leave the comparing alone, as those thoughts may cause you to enjoy something less, needlessly.

Agree 110% Excelsior a lot of people look down on LOS I loved it more than GOW3 as well, way more difficult, way longer, amazing ending although it doesnt have the same technical and graphical standards as GOW3.

But I feel they used what they had more effectively: level design, vistas, level diversity, enemy diversity, a complex fighting system and only Hideo Kojima could aid a studio to create such amasingly living, breathing in-game camera (the cuts and movements from scene to scene and area to area were brilliant and the camera only had some minor probs in battle sometimes).

P.S. Cannot wait for both these D1 purchase (if the former is on PS3).

I really hope that Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate is a throwback to the 2D style. Make it gorgeous like SOTN with a killer soundtrack and I'll be in. Well, Castlevania kind of runs through my veins, so I'll check it out regardless, but I hope it's like that.

LOS is awesome, though the camera was a bit iffy. Hopefully they fix it for the sequel.

sweet!
still gotta finish lord of shadows, god dam that is one seriously long game!
so much fun though, probably the best combat system ever put into a game!
reminds me allot of mortal kombat deception, theres so many combos you can string together for 30+ hit combos!
thats one thing i really miss about allot of action/ fighting games these days.
back in the day there was always massive combos you could pull off, anyone remember sparky?
god that was a b*tch!
now though, most games have max 5 or so hit combos.
wheres the challenge and fun in that!?

I am hoping that they bring LoS Mirror of Fate to the Vita. Please please!!! That would be so great! According to IGN Castlevania Mirror of Fate will be released on the 3DS. Be a shame to release it only on the 3DS.

Excellent news.

I really love Lords of Shadow. In my opinion one of the best action games of the generation.

Looking forward to the sequel.

There is a 'slight' chance that a 3d game could beat it. If they had a true engaging story line, say like Brahm Stoker's Dracula and the action of Dragon's Dogma. Now that would be cool. Make it very VERY gothic and sad and about ….. .bah. Nm. I AM NOT EMO!!!

If you stuck around for the post-credits shocker This news should be a little confusing.
