Yager Not Working On Dead Island 2…At Least, Not Yet

Well, just because it's not in the works now doesn't mean it'll never arrive.

But for now, the earlier report that Spec Ops: The Line developer Yager Entertainment is cranking away on a Dead Island sequel is untrue.

As reported by GameSpot , Deep Silver (publisher of the original Dead Island ) development director Guido Eickmeyer cleared things up:

"We are neither working with Yager on Dead Island 2 nor do we have any contractual agreement with Yager about any project at this point."

He added that there is a "legitimate chance" that the two companies will team up at some point and in point of fact, the project could likely relate to the Dead Island franchise. The only downside is that Eickmeyer confirmed that Dead Island 2 isn't "in conception or production with external partners," so even if it does happen, it may not be for a while. All we know is they're "considering options" for a sequel.

The first game shipped 3 million units worldwide so one might assume that'd warrant a follow-up effort. Might as well be optimistic.

I hated Dead Island.

Nothing constructive about that comment.

Damn that sucks, I had hoped it was already under production. With sales like that for a new IP it just makes sense. I'm a sad panda.

I didn't care much for Dead Island. It was an overhyped buggy mess. It's going to take alot to make me want to revisit.

yea sure.
just your usual PR talk, ill eat my hat if a dead island sequel is not announced this year!
the original sold far too well for them to just ignore it!
plus the recent trademark for dead world.
when they do a sequel i hope they fix the mission structure though.
please can we have 1 mission out of the whole game which is NOT a fetch quest?
exactly what made me stop playing it, i got sick of driving somewhere, grabbing something and returning it to the original character 1000 times!
tasks kinda get boring once they have been repeated 1000 times!

I didn't mind the first one I thought it was a decent game, but I will not buy a sequal day1 just because of the poor co-op in the first. The connection issues were more frustrating than just about anything I have played this gen, now if they fix that I'll buy it, just not until it is confirmed by players that it works properly.
