Amazon: Black Ops II Pre-Orders Top Predecessor, MW3

Yesterday, we learned that Call of Duty: Black Ops II had already topped the day-one pre-order tally for its predecessor at Amazon UK .

Now, Amazon has sent over further evidence of the impending blockbuster's early success; this information evidently encompasses all of Amazon: first-day pre-order numbers were ten times the number of the first Black Ops .

In addition, the hotly anticipated sequel even topped Amazon's record pre-order total from last year's Modern Warfare 3 by a significant 30%. Right now, MW3 still holds the overall record for the most pre-ordered video game of all time at Amazon.com (and in the top 20 overall), but at this rate, Black Ops II might take over the crown. Given the marketing blitz one can expect from Activision and the massive popularity of the franchise in question, it seems the new CoD is destined for more sales charts glory.

We can't wait to see what happens when Grand Theft Auto V gets an official release date. Think it has any shot of topping the CoD pre-order stats…?

I really don't see any point in pre-ordering a game 7 months before its release unless they are giving pre-order bonuses

I pre-ordered FFVIII 13 months before it came out. No such thing as "pre-order bonuses" in those days. 😉

There should be no surprise with this news. With every installment of COD, You have the haters who predict an epic fail. Guess what? With every installment, the sales just keep getting higher and breaking the record set by the previous game. I don't see a change in this anytime in the near future so once again, noone should be surprised.

I haven't seen anyone predicting a sales failure.

Yeah World,
It happens when each COD is announced. Everyone says the sales are not going to beat the previous COD and everyone is talking about how they think the COD faithful are tired of the games. I guess instead of saying 'predict', I should have said 'hope'.

Either way, all the haters want the game to fail and end up falling all over themselves with utter shock when the sales records are broken. I don't understand the disdain. I personally love the COD SP campaigns, especially Treyarch's storylines. I don't play the MP at all so can't say much about that part of the game.

oh I see, you meant a sales figure not as high as the last game. Yeah that's bandied about. But then, it's gotta peak sometime.

Just preordered it today for my PS3 and PC – the hardened edition isn't available for preorder yet though – but at Gamestop you can upgrade it later.

sigh, just goes to show no matter how many times the sheppard screws the pooch it will still follow blindly off the cliff.

i thoroughly enjoy playing it – therefore i buy it.
I also enjoy scotch – i buy that regularly too – seems to make me better at COD – so I guess im in the cult of Johnny Walker too.

You know that sheppards traditionally minded sheep -not dogs – fyi – although im not really up on US farming practices

Every year it sells more copies, and at least with MW3 I heard there was a lot of buyers remorse. I'm wondering if the high pre-orders are because fans are giving it a second chance, or if they are just buying into the hype again. I suppose the fact that it has zombies is a plus, which might even lead me to getting it eventually but still.

Another part of me wonders if they are lying about the massive pre-orders in order to get more people to pre-order 😛 I'm just so baffled that it breaks previous sales every year. Especially with all the haters, and the people who vow they aren't buying it again. Then again I shouldn't be talking, Treyarch has hooked me on Zombies and I will probably be part of these sales numbers this year *sigh*

Buy Activision (ATVI) stock. Between this, Diablo 3, and the new Skylanders game I'm sure they're going to have a record year for profit
